Well-played game results in tie for Shea, C.F.

PAWTUCKET — Former Central Falls coach Bobby Marchand used to describe soccer – when played correctly -- as “the beautiful game.”
That description came to mind on Saturday when Marchand’s old team, now coached by long-time Marchand assistant Carl Africo, played to a 1-1 stalemate with Shea High in a battle of Division I state title contenders. Both Shea and Central Falls play a similar game that emphasizes passing and playmaking at its core.

Tigers bring out their worst in loss to Thunderbolts

PAWTUCKET — Of the handful of non-league games this weekend that pitted Division I teams against Division II teams, this should have been the Division II’s best chance to grab a victory -- undefeated II-B leader Tolman vs. winless Cranston East at Pariseau Field.
The Tigers, who entered Saturday night’s game with a 10-game losing streak against Division I opponents, had a golden opportunity to halt that drought and dust off a reeling opponent that was banged up with injuries, but couldn’t take advantage of it.
