J. Thomas Coughlin
PAWTUCKET - J. Thomas Coughlin, 72, of Pawtucket, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011. He was the husband of Joan (Melia) Coughlin. They were happily married for fifty one years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Gregory and Alice (Burek) Coughlin.
Ruth E. Sweetland
LINCOLN - Ruth E. (MacDonald) Sweetland 90, of Lincoln, died May 10, 2011. She was the wife of the late William E. Sweetland. She was born in Pawtucket a daughter of the late William E. and Esther M. (Werner) MacDonald. She was a member of Smithfield Avenue Congregational Church, Pawtucket A.A.R.P., Lincoln Manor Association, bowling league and she enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by 1 sister Dorothy Wheaton of Corning, NY and several nieces and nephews. Sister of the late William E. MacDonald Jr.
Donald R. Carlos
LINCOLN - Donald R. Carlos, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Ida (Matook) Carlos for 55 years.
Daniel F. Harrold
LINCOLN - Daniel F. Harrold, 78, of Lincoln, died Saturday at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Arlene M. (Cunningham) Harrold. They had been married 50 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Hugh B. and Anna (Mitchell) Harrold. He was a retired correctional officer (RIBCO) at maximum security. Mr. Harrold was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Edmond H. Belair Jr.
CUMBERLAND - Edmond H. Belair Jr., 90, of Cumberland, died Monday at home. He was the husband of Doris (Lacroix) Belair. They had been married 64 years. Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Edmond H. and Hermine (Brodeur) Belair.
Sydney R. Bibby, Sr.
PAWTUCKET - Sydney R. Bibby, Sr., 90 of Pawtucket died Sunday at home. Born in Pawtucket he was the son of the late Mark and Alice (Buckman) Bibby.
Sydney lived in Pawtucket most of his life and was a WWII Naval Veteran. He served on the NTS Newport, R.I, USS Bristol, USS Greene and the USS Shoshone. He received the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 2 bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon Point System.
After his retirement, Sydney worked as a painter for his two sons up until 5 years ago.
PAWTUCKET - Matilda Dunphy, 97, of Pawtucket, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011. She was the wife of the late Michael Dunphy. Born in County Leitram, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Bridget (Deignan) Guckian. Mrs. Dunphy worked as a housekeeper in Pawtucket and Providence for many years before retiring.
EAST PROVIDENCE - Agostinho DeMello, 81 died Thursday at Orchard View Manor in East Providence. He was the husband of the late Maria (Fransica) DaSilva. Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of Joseph and Cordalina (Machado) DeMello. Agostinho came to the United States 44 years ago and settled in Pawtucket.
After his retirement in1992 Agostinho worked in Maintenance at M&F Case in Pawtucket.
Jennifer M. Gabriel
PAWTUCKET - Jennifer M. Gabriel, 29, of Ballston Avenue died unexpectedly Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, Pawtucket.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was the daughter of Karen (Cummings) Edington of Pawtucket and Eugene Gabriel of Manchester, NH and she was the stepdaughter of Howard Edington of Pawtucket and Bethe Gabriel of Manchester, NH.
She was a mental health specialist at Arbor Fuller Hospital, Attleboro, MA. She was a graduate of the Sawyer School, Pawtucket.
PAWTUCKET - Joseph Donahue, 65, of Pawtucket, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Vincent and Mary (Bodell) Donahue.
Mr. Donahue was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket. He was an avid Red Sox and Friars Fan. He had lived at the Burns House and enjoyed his time there for the last fifteen years.
He is survived by a brother, Patrick Donahue, and a sister, Catherine Donahue. He was the brother of the late Robert and William Donahue.
Edith C. Smiley
NORTH PROVIDENCE - Edith C. (Jones) Smiley, 79, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Grandview Center, Cumberland. She was the beloved wife of Philip B. Smiley. Mr. and Mrs. Smiley were married for 57 years.
Born in Cleveland, OH, a daughter of the late William and Ella V. (Snyder) Jones, she had lived in Lincoln for 50 years before moving to North Providence over 5 years ago.
CUMBERLAND - Earl Bertenshaw, Jr., 87, of Academy Drive and formerly of Lincoln died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Betty (Rattray) Bertenshaw.
Born in Cumberland, a son of the late Earl and Grace H. (Entwistle) Bertenshaw, he had lived in Lincoln all of his life before moving to Cumberland a year ago.
Mr. Bertenshaw was a self-employed home improvement contractor.
Leon J. Valentine
EAST PROVIDENCE - Leon J. Valentine, 76, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine M. (Cloutier) Valentine for 49 years. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Wallace and Elsie (Gath) Valentine, he resided in Pawtucket most of his life before moving to East Providence over 8 years ago. Leon served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Peterson Puritan, Inc., Cumberland until retiring.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Lori Lancellotti and her husband Dean of Seekonk and two grandsons, Nick and Andrew Lancellotti.
Joseph F. Bodell
PAWTUCKET - Joseph F. Bodell, 76, of Pawtucket, died at home surrounded by his loving family on May 3rd. He was the husband of Joan M. (Kelley) Bodell. They were married for 55 years.
Mr. Bodell was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Leo A. and Elizabeth F. (Devlin) Bodell.He owned and operated Bodell Plumbing and Heating for many years.
Robert H. Grenon
LINCOLN - Robert H. Grenon, "Bob", 56, died May 4th at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Center after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Diane M. (Fregeau) Grenon to whom he was married to for 34 years.
Born in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of the late Roger H. and Annette T. (Gingras) Grenon. He was raised in Pawtucket and was a 1973 graduate of Our Lady of Providence High School. He also attended Bryant College.
He was a communicant of Saint Jude's Catholic Church in Lincoln.
Norma G. Licker
PAWTUCKET - Norma G. Licker of Pawtucket died Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
She was born in Providence the daughter of the late Mary (Carr) Boylan.
Norma was a kind, gentle, loving, caring and generous person. She was a talented artist with a love for nature, especially bunnies. Her heart was filled with the joy and love her two boys gave her. She was a mother beyond compare. Norma will truly be missed.
James Martin Bowen
SOUTH ATTLEBORO - James Martin Bowen, a long time resident of South Attleboro, joined the angels in heaven on May 1, 2011.
Richard G. Cartier
SEEKONK - Richard G. Cartier, 69 of Seekonk died Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of Pearl (Bailey) Cartier. Born in Pawtucket he was the son of the late George H. and Jeannette (DesForges) Cartier.
Richard was a Foreman at the Narragansett Wire Company of Pawtucket for 22 years and worked at Chardonay's Restaurant on Route 44 in Seekonk for 10 years.
Frank W. Conforti
RUMFORD - Frank W. Conforti, 76, of Newman Avenue, Rumford died Tuesday, May 3rd at the VA Medical Center in Providence.Frank was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Francis and Barbara (Mason) Conforti and was the husband of the late Ruth (Grossman) Conforti.
After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Conforti returned home and became the Personnel Director for the Newman Crosby Steel Company.
He was a member of the Pawtucket Country Club, T K Club and the Blackstone Valley Chapter of the International Management Council.
Carlos A. Figueiredo
CUMBERLAND - Carlos A. Figueiredo, 60, of Broad Street passed away May 3, 2011 in the Philip Hulitar Hospice Care Center, Providence. He was the husband of Fernanda Figueiredo.
Born in Riba Mondego, Portugal he was the son of Antonio Figueiredo of Portugal, and the late Adalia Borges Saraiva Figueiredo. He also leaves behind his step-mother Maria De Lurdes Figueiredo. He resided in Cumberland for over 10 years, previously Central Falls.
He was employed as a Fork Lift Operator for the former Northeast Cable Company.
