COVENTRY- PONDER, LORRAINE J. (LEMIEUX) LPN, age 59, of Mead St., Coventry, passed away at Kent Hospital while surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. She was the wife of Daniel N. Ponder for 32 years.
Born in Central Falls, RI, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Claire (Berard) Lemieux.
Lorraine was employed at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 35 years before retiring in 2012 due to illness. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and caring for others.
James W. Moroney, Sr.
NORTH PROVIDENCE - James W. Moroney, Sr., 76, of Smithfield Road, died Wednesday, March 12, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Caren (O'Brien) Moroney.
Born in Providence, a son of the late James and Gladys (Erickson) Moroney, he had lived in Pawtucket and Riverside for many years before moving to North Providence last year.
Mr. Moroney was a Park Attendant for the City of Pawtucket Parks & Recreation Department, before retiring in 2003. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War.
PAWTUCKET- Irene (Laurinda) Furtado, 83, of Meadow St., Pawtucket, RI died on Tuesday, March 11th at the Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jose Jacinto Furtado.
Irene was born in Castro Verde, Alentejo, Portugal, a daughter of the late Manuel Laurinda and Mariana Barbara Martins Laurinda.
Mrs. Furtado arrived in Rhode Island in 1963 with her husband. She worked as a laborer in many textile factories, lastly employed by Greenhalgh Mills in Pawtucket. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and was a devout parishioner of St. Teresa's Church.
Mary H. O'Hara
CUMBERLAND- Mary H. O'Hara, 73, of 1 Mendon Rd., passed away Monday in the Philip Hulitar Center, Providence.
Born in the Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Daly) Boyle. She resided in Cumberland for the past 40 years having previously lived in Connecticut.
She was a C.N.A. employed by the Oak Grove Health Care Center, Woonsocket for 5 years until her retirement. Mrs. O'Hara was also a member of the Ireland 32 Society, Pawtucket.
Blanche M. Perrault
CENTRAL FALLS- Blanche M. Perrault, 89, passed on March 11th. She was the wife of the late Claude A. Perrault.
Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Louis and Yvonne (Leclerc) Mercier.
William J. McCoy
E. PROVIDENCE - William J. McCoy, 92, of Waterfront Drive, East Providence and formerly of Pawtucket died on March 10, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Ruth (Barry) McCoy. They had been married 65 years.
Mr. McCoy owned and operated the McCoy Oil Company for over forty years. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. McCoy served in both the Pacific and Atlantic Theatres. He served on the USS Wilhoite which was an destroyer escort, and his unit earned a Presidential Citation for bravery and sinking a German Vessel.
Boris I. Nosovskiy
PAWTUCKET- Boris I. Nosovskiy, 75, passed away Sunday at Pawtucket Skilled Nursing & Rehab after a long illness.
A son of the late Dr. Isaak Nosovskiy and Reva Nosovskaya (Koldobskaya), he was born in Vitebsk, Belarus (former Soviet Union).
He migrated to the US in 1996, settling in RI. He was an extremely talented and well known musician, director, conductor and actor. He was also an author and had a tremendous sense of humor.
Jeane L. Underwood
PAWTUCKET - Underwood, Jeane L. (Westervelt), 57 peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was beloved wife of Allan J. Underwood. Born in North Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Lucille (Couture) Westervelt of Exeter, RI and the late Henry "Hank" Westervelt of Sparks, NV.
Alfred E. Lavallee
CUMBERLAND - Alfred "Fred" E. Lavallee, 67, of Main St, died Friday, March 7 at home. He was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Eugene and Doris (Vermette) Lavallee.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He worked as a sheet metal mechanic for Electric Boat in Quonset for many years until retiring in 1985. He was a bus monitor for the Cumberland School Dept for the last several years. Fred was an avid golfer, and enjoyed cooking.
John B. Lawler
CUMBERLAND - John B. Lawler, 77, of Cumberland, passed away Friday at the Memorial Hospital of RI, Pawtucket. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Garrity) Lawler.
Born in Bermuda, he was the son of the late Maurice and Clara (Smith) Lawler. He was raised in the Worcester, MA area and resided in Cumberland, RI for over 48 years.
Robert J. Rooney
NORTH PROVIDENCE- Robert J. Rooney of North Providence died on February 28, 2014.
Mr. Rooney was born in Providence, the son of Veronica Albury of Leehigh Acres, Florida and the late Francis N. Rooney. He was the stepson of Robert R. Albury.
He was previously employed by Cumberland Farms.
CUMBERLAND- Helen (Staba) Luiz, 92 formerly of Tyler Street, passed away Friday at the Oakland Grove Health Care Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late James Luiz.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Koziol) Staba. She resided in Cumberland for most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, and a member of the Cumberland Senior Center.
PAWTUCKET- Christine Sherlock, 64, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 6, 2014.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (McNamara) Sherlock.
Christine enjoyed spending time at home and painting. She leaves a sister, Mary Sherlock of Pawtucket. She was the sister of the late Karen Sherlock.
Helen A. Gumieniak
CUMBERLAND - Helen A. Gumieniak, 70, passed away Tuesday March 4, 2014.
Born in Pawtucket she was a beloved daughter of the late Stanley J. and Anna T. (Balbaton) Gumieniak. She lived in Cumberland for the past 47 years.
Before retiring Helen was a fourth grade Teacher at the Virginia M. Cunningham Elementary School of Pawtucket for 43 years.
Helen was a graduate of Rhode Island College Class of 1965 and a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa and Quota Societies.
EAST PROVIDENCE - Carrara, Patricia, 81, of Rumford, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014. She was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Montgomery) Carrara. Patricia graduated from Roger Williams School of Nursing and worked most of her career at Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket.
She is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Mynarski and her husband Thomas, her niece, Patricia Mynarski and nephew, John Mynarski.
Russell B. Chadwick
PAWTUCKET - Russell B. Chadwick, 60, of Pawtucket died Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of the late Sharleen (Jamieson) Chadwick.
Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Russell A. and Doris (Barton) Chadwick, he had lived in Pawtucket for most of his life.
He was a rigger for Hallamore Transportation Company for over 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Teamsters Local #251.
Joan M. Dolloff
PAWTUCKET - Joan M. Dolloff, 73, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Kindred Oak Hill Transition Care & Rehabilitation, Pawtucket. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard W. Dolloff. Joan was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Albert and Angelina (Kennedy) Falocco and was a lifelong resident of the Blackstone Valley. She was a sales associate at Apex Department Store and Macy's until retiring several years ago. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island for many years.
PAWTUCKET - Maria Patricio, 93, of Taft St., died peacefully Monday night, March 3, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. Born May 10, 1920 in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Jesus) Patricio.
Maria was the sister of Mary Deus Patricio of Pawtucket and of the late Ernest Patricio, Joaquim Patricio, and Celeste Patricio. She also leaves a nephew Ernest Patricio Jr. and his wife Sandra; a niece Gail Moore and her husband Clay; her great-niece Sherrie Patricio Souza and 2 great-nephews, Russell and Blake Moore.
A. Dorothy Jacobs
PAWTUCKET - A. Dorothy (Berlinsky) Jacobs, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2014. She was the beloved wife of Napoleon Leon Albert Jacobs and the late Albert E. Hamel. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Sidney S. Berlinsky and Mary (Winters) Tierney.
Dorothy worked at McConnell & Carpenter, Pawtucket, for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed listening to music and reading; spending time at home with her family, and participating in various activities with the seniors group at Rumford Towers.
Gladys D. Jaworski
PAWTUCKET Gladys D. Jaworski, 90, passed away Sunday March 2, 2014. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Dr. Rudolf A. Jaworski Sr.
Born in Ludlow, MA she was a daughter of the late Jan and Josephine (Chlastawa) Duda. She lived in Pawtucket for the past 65 years.
A graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Gladys was a registered Nurse. She was a supporting citizen of the Polish American Community being an active Member of the Rhode Island Polonia Scholarship Foundation for many years. She was an parishioner of St. Joseph's Church of Central Falls.
