EP police refocusing on 2009 arson case

EAST PROVIDENCE – Friday marked the four-year anniversary of an unsolved arson and hate crime in the city, and even though the case remains cold, East Providence police say they are still reviewing all aspects of the investigation in hopes of developing further leads.

On Sept. 27, 2009, anti-Semitic graffiti, including swatiskas and a racial slur, were spray-painted on a Ferris Avenue home in Rumford before the back of it was set on fire with an accelerant. A family sleeping in the home was able to get out safely, but the suspect responsible for setting the fire was never caught.

Students’ feat earns BVP teacher skydiving journey with Gist

LINCOLN – Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy’s Drew Madden, 27, admits skydiving was never really on his list of things to do someday.
But that won’t keep Madden from bailing out of a plane over Middletown this afternoon with Commissioner of Education Deborah A. Gist.

Madden, a noted math instructor for the Blackstone Valley Prep charter school network serving Lincoln, Cumberland, Central Falls and Pawtucket, made a commitment over the summer to support the middle school’s reading program, and his skydiving excursion is the payoff of that endeavor.

PAWTUCKET — It seems a lot of photographers have an idea about what represents a slice of life in Pawtucket. Over 300 submissions were received for the city’s 15th annual Photo Contest under the theme “A Piece of Pawtucket.”
