Cumberland High rolling out new field turf

CUMBERLAND — A summer-long project to replace the natural grass football field at Tucker Field with state-of-the-art synthetic turf is nearly complete, but whether or not it will be ready in time for the first home game of the season on Oct. 4 is still up in the air.

Slater Jr. High closing for two days of asbestos cleanup

PAWTUCKET – The Samuel Slater Junior High School will be closed for two days on Monday and Tuesday while workers remove a section of ceiling containing asbestos from the Mineral Spring Avenue facility.

According to school officials, workers demolishing a ceiling in the boys’ locker room found a second ceiling underneath that tested positive for asbestos.

“When they ripped the ceiling down there was an older ceiling underneath that had some asbestos,” said Pawtucket School Committee Chairman Alan Tenreiro.

Weiss to be honored by Blackstone Valley Tourism Council at Oct. 3 dinner
