Two shot at city gas station

January 6, 2013

PAWTUCKET (AP) — Pawtucket police are investigating the shooting of two men at a local gas station.
Police say they responded to a report of shots fired at a Sunoco station on School Street shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. But the victims were gone by the time officers arrived.
Authorities say the two men later showed up at different hospitals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.
The men's names haven't been released. It's not clear why they were shot.
Police are looking for several cars seen around the gas station at the time of the shooting.

Sledders can't let safety slide

CUMBERLAND — Kids and young adults love to see snow falling during the winter because it can result in lots of fun on local sledding runs.
But as the sledding tragedy in Providence showed all too clearly last Wednesday, sledding in the wrong spot or in icy conditions can be very dangerous and even result in fatal injury.
The sledding accident at Neutaconkanut Hill Park in Providence that claimed the life of Alexandria Alvarez, 17, sparked safety reviews of many popular sledding spots around the state and the closing of the Neutaconkanut Hill at least until surface conditions improve.
