Model of USS Wasp on display at Slater Park

PAWTUCKET — Both young and old visitors to the Looff Carousel in Slater Park will no doubt enjoy seeing the big model of a U.S. Navy ship that is currently on display. What many don't realize is the important part that this boat played in U.S. history as well as the way it helped lift a Pawtucket resident out of his post-retirement doldrums.

Crowley: Officials make it difficult for elderly to vote

CENTRAL FALLS — Calling it a “very sad situation,” state Sen. Elizabeth Crowley said Wednesday that election officials are making it more difficult for residents of Forand and Wilfrid manors — the city’s two largest elderly high rises — to vote.
While even Crowley acknowledges that the polling places are being moved only a short distance away from those spots, the senator nonetheless likens the action to “disenfranchising” the elderly residents who live in those two buildings.

Celebrating 80 years of the Stanleyburger

CENTRAL FALLS — While much may have changed about Central Falls in the past 80 years, a Dexter Street restaurant and its most famous menu item remain, blessedly, as fixtures in the bustling city. The “Stanleyburger,” a classic hamburger with trademark grilled onions and pickles on a soft bun, is still satisfying longtime fans and winning over new ones in the small eatery by the same name.
