PAWTUCKET â Both young and old visitors to the Looff Carousel in Slater Park will no doubt enjoy seeing the big model of a U.S. Navy ship that is currently on display. What many don't realize is the important part that this boat played in U.S. history as well as the way it helped lift a Pawtucket resident out of his post-retirement doldrums.
CENTRAL FALLS â Calling it a âvery sad situation,â state Sen. Elizabeth Crowley said Wednesday that election officials are making it more difficult for residents of Forand and Wilfrid manors â the cityâs two largest elderly high rises â to vote.
While even Crowley acknowledges that the polling places are being moved only a short distance away from those spots, the senator nonetheless likens the action to âdisenfranchisingâ the elderly residents who live in those two buildings.

CENTRAL FALLS â While much may have changed about Central Falls in the past 80 years, a Dexter Street restaurant and its most famous menu item remain, blessedly, as fixtures in the bustling city. The âStanleyburger,â a classic hamburger with trademark grilled onions and pickles on a soft bun, is still satisfying longtime fans and winning over new ones in the small eatery by the same name.
