Police ID attempted murder victims

EAST PROVIDENCE—East Providence Police have identified the victims in an apparent attempted murder case involving a husband and wife that occurred at a Rumford home.
Lucy Ponte, 54, was found by a family member severely beaten in her Larchwood Drive home at around 7 a.m. on Monday morning, police said.

High-rise residents evacuated

PAWTUCKET — Over 80 tenants of Slater House at 10 Goff Ave. had to find temporary lodging after an early morning electrical fire on Monday forced the complete evacuation of the downtown high-rise.
According to Fire Capt. Steven Parent, who is also the city's fire marshal, the incident was reported at around 2:30 a.m. The electrical fire appeared to start in an adjoining, street-level office on Broad Street that used to house an architectural design firm.
