City man charged with robbing Sunoco station

PAWTUCKET — A 22-year-old city man wanted as a suspect in a gas station robbery last month was arrested Wednesday after he turned himself in to Pawtucket Police detectives.
According to Pawtucket Police, on Dec. 17, a robbery occurred at the Sunoco gas station located at 35 Cedar St. in Pawtucket. The suspect presented a note to the clerk demanding cash. The clerk opened the register and gave cash to the suspect.

Marriage Equality RI looking for same-sex marriage law again

PROVIDENCE — Marriage Equality Rhode Island (MERI), the group that fought for a same-sex marriage law last year, but had to accept the compromise of civil unions, is coming back again in the new legislative year.
It's top priority is once again a same-sex marriage law, but the group will also be looking to make changes to the civil unions law, including seeking the repeal of an amendment included last year that they say is discriminatory and unfair.

AG: Schools violated Open Meetings Act

PAWTUCKET — Based on a complaint brought by a former School Committee member, the Attorney General's Office found the Pawtucket School Committee to be in violation of the Open Meetings Act when it failed to report the outcome of an April 12, 2011 executive session vote on the teachers' contract.
