PAWTUCKET â€“ George Patrick Duffyâ€™s name is well-known around this city, most commonly associated with the 70 years he has spent coaching youth sports. What most people donâ€™t know is that Duffy endured a frightening experience while serving in the Coast Guard during World War II.
The 90-year-old gentleman sat in his living room two weekends ago and answered questions about his military career, speaking in the measured tones he developed while serving as publicity director for the old Providence Steamrollers and radio announcer for the Rhode Island Reds.

PROVIDENCE â€“ A group of freshmen GOP lawmakers, led by Rep. Dan Gordon of Portsmouth in the House and Cumberland Sen. Bethany Moura in the Senate, are introducing legislation to defy the federal Obamacare mandate that everyone buy health insurance.
â€śThis is a simple bill,â€ť Gordon told a Statehouse press conference Thursday. â€śItâ€™s three sentences long, in simple language, simply asserting our right as citizens under the constitution to refrain from purchasing a product from private industry under pains of penalty mandated by the federal government -- no more, no less.
