PAWTUCKET â In John Baxterâs view there isnât a better event among the many making up the month-long Pawtucket Arts Festival than when the Rhode Island Philharmonic takes the stage at Slater Park for its annual concert.
âI think it is a vital classical music component of the Festival and one way that we can highlight a local performance group that has been a cornerstone of classical music in the state,â Baxter, festival chairman, said of the event.

Darlene Hyson, of Rehoboth, Mass., is a seasoned veteran of the farm. By her own estimation, she frequents the farm on a weekly basis. On Friday morning, she was there with her 3-year-old twin boy and girl.
CENTRAL FALLS â The former St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy Building has been sold to a New York-based redevelopment company, with plans to convert it into an elementary school, according to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence.
The buyer, Civic Builders of New York, bought the property at 909 Lonsdale Ave. from Holy Family Parish for $889,000. The company plans to turn the former Catholic school into an elementary school, which will serve children from Central Falls, Cumberland, and Lincoln, according to a news release.
Doris M. Depot
CUMBERLAND - Doris M. Depot (Smith), 89, of 1 Flat St., passed away Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Donna M. Gingras in Sutton, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Depot Jr.
Born in Waterbury, CT she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Gobeille) Smith. She resided in Cumberland for most of her life having left for Florida in 1964 and returning to Cumberland in 1994.
She was employed by the Health-Tex Corp., Pawtucket for many years until her retirement in 1987. Mrs. Depot was a communicant of St. James Church, Manville.
PAWTUCKET — Ten years have gone by since Thomas “The Souljah” Falowo first laced up a pair of boxing gloves, and this weekend in Las Vegas the Pawtucket-based pro will bring to bear every bit of that experience as he steps onto the biggest stage of his career.
EAST PROVIDENCE â Police spent two hours on Thursday trying to coax a sword-wielding man out of his home on Delway Road after he barricaded himself in the house.
When talks didn't work, a special reaction team used gas to finally force the man out, authorities said.
The incident began to unfold just after 6 a.m., when police received a call from a man inside the home who said he awoke to find his distraught 66-year-old roommate swinging a sword and making threatening statements.
The caller then ran out of the house and waited for police to arrive.

CUMBERLAND - Henry E. Belisle, 91, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, August 26th. He was the beloved husband of Claire M. (Dupre) Belisle. Mr. & Mrs. Belisle had been married 71 years. Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Hormisdas and Liliose (Mandeville) Belisle.

PAWTUCKET - Esther Rita (Varieur) Kingston, 48, passed away at her home in Pawtucket on Sunday, August 17, 2014. She was the daughter of Albert Varieur and Lorraine Daigle.
She is survived by her brothers Rick Varieur and Marc Varieur, her children Jason Kingston and Alisha Rockett and her grandchildren Nevaeh-Rose Melanson, Bentley Melanson, and Hunter Kingston. She will be dearly missed by her family and community.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at noon at the LaChapelle Funeral Home, 643 Main St. in Pawtucket.
