CENTRAL FALLS - Jeanne C. Lizotte, 83 of the Wilfred Manor in Central Falls died on Thursday at Harris Home Care North. She was the wife of the late Roland H. Lizotte. Born in Central Falls and a lifelong resident of the city, she was the daughter of the late Phydime and Anna (Levesque) Hemond.
She was a communicant of St. Matthew Church (now Holy Spirit Catholic Community). Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a waitress at Stanley's Restaurant in Central Falls and previously as a quality inspector at Hasbro in Pawtucket.

That was Ed Cooley’s biggest accomplishment on Wednesday afternoon. He gave a fan base a reason to hope again. The Providence native is coming home to breath fresh air into a program that is begging for a turnaround, and he appears the correct guy for the job.

WARWICK - Genevieve H. Pupecki 88, of Lemac Street passed away Monday March 21, 2011 at Kent Hospital.
Born in Providence she was a daughter of the late Stanislaw and Helena (Buznacka) Pupecki. She lived in Warwick for the past 10 years and was formerly of Cranston.
She was a volunteer at Meals On Wheels of Cranston and was a member of the Johnston Senior Center.
She leaves 1 loving sister Sophie "Phyllis" Muro of Warwick and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Stanley, Joseph and Walter Pupecki.

ALBION - Ernest J. "Ernie" Jacques, 78, of School St., Albion, died Tuesday evening at The Holiday in Manville. He was the loving husband of Lillian (Henault) Jacques.
A lifelong resident of Albion, he was a son of the late Henry and Rosilda Jacques.
Mr. Jacques served in the Rhode Island National Guard for over 30 years. He was employed by American Tourister, Madison Industries, and BJ's Wholesale Stores.

Mr. DaRocha was born in St. Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Joao and Maria Isabel (Machado) DaRocha and the husband of the late Olinda E. (Costa) DaRocha.
He was a press operator at Cass Jewelry in North Providence for many years.

The two virtually grew up in the same corner of the state, frequently crossing paths whenever a pickup game broke out. Everything changed though, Jamal Gomes recalls, on the day of his high school graduation, when he learned a great deal about Ed Cooley, the person.
“He had heard that I was coming to Stonehill College to play basketball and called to congratulate me,” was one of several stories Gomes shared about Cooley, who will be introduced as the next men’s basketball head coach at Providence College Wednesday afternoon. “He’s an amazing, amazing man.”

PROVIDENCE – There was only one candidate Providence College officials had its sights set on to become the school’s next basketball coach. Apparently Ed Cooley felt that warm embrace to the point that the Providence native is ready to take on the challenge of reversing the Friars’ fortunes.
Tuesday saw Providence officially sign off on the 41-year-old Cooley as the Friars’ new coach. Terms of the deal were not announced, though it’s not too far-fetched to think Cooley received something comparable, in terms of length and compensation, to the package Keno Davis was awarded three years ago.

CUMBERLAND – They'll have a new head coach and they'll be participating in a new league.
But as far as the outlook for the upcoming season for Cumberland High, it will still be the same old goals.
“We just want to win as many games as possible and have some fun,” said first-year coach Matt Smalley. “We are just going to take it one game at a time and hopefully at the end of the season we'll be playing on championship day.”

Pawtucket Armory in receivership

PAWTUCKET — Another one of the city's landmark historical buildings appears to be in trouble. The Pawtucket Armory Association, which operates the castle-like Pawtucket Armory that houses the award-winning Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre and several other local companies, has been in receivership since the end of January.

CUMBERLAND - Manuel Correia, 80, of Curran Road, passed away Tuesday in the Home and Hospice Care of RI Inpatient Unit, Providence. He was the husband of the late Fernanda (DeSousa) Goncalves Correia.
Born in Darei, Mangualde, Portugal he was the son of the late Leonido and Maria Correia. He came to this country in 1969 settling in Cumberland.
He was employed by the former American Insulated Wire of South Attleboro for 20 years until his retirement.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

CUMBERLAND - Edward A. Parent, 76, from One Mendon Road, passed away Monday at home. He was the husband of Helen (Joly) Parent.
Born in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Tom and Ida (Jacques) Parent. He resided in Central Falls for the past 8 years, previously residing in Cumberland and Reno, Nevada.
Mr. Parent was a manager of Silver State Barricade and Sign for many years until retirement. After retirement he was employed as a School Bus Aid for Laidlaw and Durham Bus Services for over 10 years.

PAWTUCKET - Peter Orloff, 92 of Pawtucket died Monday at the Pawtucket Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. He is the husband of Therese Orloff. Born in Pawtucket, Peter is the son of the late Fred and Julia (Borchov) Orloff.
He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in Rome-Arno, North Apennines and PO Valley. He was the recipient of the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the Bronze Star Medal.

CUMBERLAND - Newman A. Carr Jr., 66, formerly of Cumberland, passed away Sunday in the Hebert Nursing Center, Smithfield after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Newman and Dorothy (Mann) Carr.
He was a
Class of 1962, Cumberland High School graduate, and was a member of the state champion baseball team.
After high school, Mr. Carr served during Vietnam in the United States National Guard, serving in the 115th Military Police Unit from 1968 to 1969.

PAWTUCKET - Robert J. Bessette, 76, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, March 22, 2011. He was the beloved husband of the late Lea R. (Dame) Bessette.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Alphonse and Dora (Ranalli)Bessette. Bob served in the U.S. Army and was an owner of the Foxon Packaging Co., Providence until retiring. He was an Honorary Life member and former Trustee of the Tri-City Elks Lodge No. 14; Past-President of the Wampanoag Rod & Gun Club and a former member of the Attleboro Foreman's Club.
