PAWTUCKET - Anna E. Ducharme, 79, of Pawtucket, passed away Monday, June 06, 2011. She was the wife of Gerard Ducharme. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Leo Sr. and Anna (Simmons) Biagioni. She is survived by her loving children, Margaret Indell and her husband Kenneth of West Warwick, Dennis G. Ducharme, retired USAF, and his wife Irma of Texas and Walter R. Ducharme and his wife Renee of Cumberland and grandchildren, Keith, Scott, Kaitlyn and Nicolette Ducharme. She was also the sister of the late Phyllis A. Biagioni and Leo Biagioni Jr.

Cumberland's Dionne dazzles at Rhody 5K

LINCOLN – During her four years as a distance specialist for Cumberland High, Hilary Dionne made her mark. It's something that she carried over to Dartmouth College, where she excelled at the Division I level.
Three years later, not much has changed.
Back in the fall, the 25-year-old Dionne broke the three-hour barrier in her debut to the marathon distance. On Sunday morning at Twin River, she also demonstrated she still has some speed in her legs, too.

PAWTUCKET - Jeannette Cunard, 89, died on Thursday at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. She was the wife of the late George M.Cunard.
Born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Alfred Lussier and Emma (Garneau) Lussier, she had resided in Pawtucket most of her life and was a communicant of St. Mary Church.

CENTRAL FALLS - Armand Bertrand, 63, a longtime Cowden St resident, passed on June 5, 2011.
Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Roger E. and Rita M. (Dube) Bertrand.
He had been employed by Hasbro of Central Falls for 12 years; he then worked for Corning Glass Works, previously GTE and Osram for 25 years.
Armand was a true sports fan cheering all the New England Teams and was also a NASCAR enthusiast. He was a member of the Forand Manor Association.

PAWTUCKET - John M. McGee, a retired Lieutenant on the Pawtucket Fire Department of Pawtucket died Friday, June 3, 2011. He was the husband of Claire (Cote) McGee.
John was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late James P. McGee and Cecilia A. (Doherty) McGee. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and then served his native Pawtucket on their Fire Department where he earned the rank of Lieutenant.
Besides his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Ann-Marie McGee of Pawtucket. He was the brother of the late Raymond and James McGee.

PAWTUCKET - Vincenzo M. "Vincent" DiIorio 79 died Sunday at his home. He was the husband of the late Norma P. (Daley) DiIorio.
Born in Providence he was the son of the late Filippo and Antonietta (Coia) DiIorio. He moved to Pawtucket in 1955.

CENTRAL FALLS - Therese A. (Girouard) Vincent, 82, of Broad Street, passed away Sunday at home. She was the wife of the late Leo P. Vincent.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Napolean and Lena Girouard. She was a life long resident of Central Falls.
She was employed as a super-visor for Hasbro Inc. for over 25 years until her retirement.
She was a life-long communicant of the former Notre Dame Parish. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community Seniors.

Central tops C.F. for Div. III softball championship

PROVIDENCE — Small ball was big trouble for Central Falls High.
Utilizing the bunt to perfection on Sunday afternoon, top-seed and unbeaten Central High captured the Division III state championship with a 13-3 six-inning, mercy-rule verdict over the second-seeded Warriors to complete a sweep of the best-of-3 series. Just a day earlier, the Knights withstood a late rally by C.F. to earn a 10-9 win in the opener at Rhode Island College.
The Warriors were looking for their first state title since copping a slow-pitch crown in 1997.

“Regardless of what my other competitors do,” he said, “I just blank that away and just think about what I did in practice and what I learned so far and use it in play.”
Whenever Shea senior Freddy Gobewole toes the starting line of a sprint event, he incorporates a simple strategy, using a somewhat negative approach to ready himself for battle.

PAWTUCKET — They have intelligence, drive, supportive families, and a will to succeed after high school. Yet, this year's valedictorian and salutatorian of Tolman High School also credit something else as being key to their stellar academic achievements: the city itself.
“I feel very fortunate to have been born and raised in Pawtucket and in having gone though Pawtucket schools,” said Alyssa Browning, valedictorian of her graduating class. “I had amazing teachers.”

Lions meet their match in Div. II finals

PROVIDENCE — Lincoln High’s perfect season came to an end at the hands of … a perfect season.
In Saturday’s clash between two unbeaten teams trying to etch their names into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League history books, it was Tiverton that emerged with an unblemished record — and the Division II state championship.
A late second-half comeback fell short for the Lions, who watched the Tigers celebrate a 12-8 victory at Rhode Island College to cap a 17-0 campaign.

E.P. school plans includes all-day K, but also layoffs

EAST PROVIDENCE — At its meeting of May 24, the East Providence School Committee passed Phase I of the reorganization plan for the city’s elementary, middle and high schools. The plan, which includes the implementation of full-day kindergarten in September and the addition of teaching staff, also eliminates several positions within the district.

Bishop Keough awards 10 diplomas

PAWTUCKET – As is tradition after these commencement exercises, the 10 graduates of Bishop Keough Regional High School recessed out of St. Maria Goretti Church on Friday evening and congregated in the front courtyard.
The seniors formed a circle, then lofted their pale blue caps skyward and let out a few hoots and hollers, those to celebrate their four years of dedication and devotion to academia and extracurricular activities.
A moment later, Mary E. Gingras, who hails from Lincoln, seemed a bit dazed by the atmosphere.

Tolman spikers top Pilgrim, head to Div. II semis

PAWTUCKET – The Donaldson Gymansium was rocking Friday night with droves of Tolman High fans coming out to witness the Tigers’ Division II quarterfinal matchup with Pilgrim.
The host did not disappoint.
Tolman, a No. 2 seed from the II-North at 14-2, overcame a rare loss in the opening game by winning the next three en route to a 3-1 decision over the Patriots.
The win is the first in the postseason for the Tigers since their 2003 championship season. It’s also avenges back-to-back losses to the Patriots, a three seed for II-South, in opening-round matches of the last two playoffs.

PAWTUCKET - Dean Bouvier, of 214 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket.
Mr. Bouvier was born in Providence, the son of the late Norma (Duphiney) Holmes-Traylor. He was a teller at various racetracks up and down the East Coast.
He is survived by a son Corey Robert, and his brothers and sisters Donna Calabro, Susan Lewis, Sharon Simas, David Traylor, Charles Traylor, and Melodie Traylor. He was the brother of the late Robert Traylor and Paula Holmes.

PAWTUCKET - Mary H. "Polly" (Gavitt) McDuff, of Pawtucket died Friday, June 3, 2011. She was the wife of Joseph G. McDuff. They had been married 56 years.
Mrs. McDuff was born in Westerly, the daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Hickson) Gavitt. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Nursing and was a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket.
