Missing Burrillville woman has been found

The Mapleville woman for whom we launched a silver alert has been found in the woods behind her house. RI State Police K9’s assisted the Burrillville Police and local fire departments in the search.

Police search for home invaders

PAWTUCKET — Pawtucket Police are searching for three male suspects who took part in a home invasion at a Pawtucket Avenue apartment complex late Saturday night.
According to Major Arthur Martins, at around 11:30 p.m., three men burst into the apartment where a woman was home with her two children, ages 11 and 9. The suspects all wore hooded sweatshirts tied to conceal their faces, and two were armed with handguns.
The suspects stole a small amount of cash and 14 pairs of men’s sneakers, all size 11, from the apartment. No injuries were reported.

PAWTUCKET - Antonio Almeida, 89, of Pawtucket, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012. He was the husband of the late Maria (Pereira) Almeida.
Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Julio and Anna (Rodrigues) Almeida. Mr. Almeida was a former in the concrete industry for many years before retiring. He lived most of his life in Pawtucket.
He is survived by his daughter, Maria Moitoso, his sons, Antonio and John Almeida, eight grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
The funeral and burial will be private. Arrangements by Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET- STELLA ELLIOTT, 89, passed away Sunday July 29, 2012 at The Holiday in Lincoln. She was the beloved wife of the late John Elliott.
Born in Central Falls she was a daughter of the late Jan and Zofia (Wojcik) Dziedzic. She was a life long resident of Pawtucket.
She was the loving mother of Frances Adamski of Lincoln, Christina Rossi of Cumberland, Rosemary Mercier of Canterbury, CT, Steven Elliott of San Diego, CA, John Elliott of Warren and James Elliott of Easton, MA. She also leaves 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

PAWTUCKET - Daniel W. Haynes Sr., 68, a retired Pawtucket Police Sergeant passed away Tuesday July 24, 2012 at the University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. after a courageous battle while waiting for a liver transplant. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia A. "Cindy" (Zuba) Haynes.
Born in Framingham, MA he was a son of the late Gardner and Aleta (Hershey) Haynes. Dan retired to North Carolina in 2009.
Dan was a 27 year Veteran of the Pawtucket Police Department retiring as a Sergeant.

Anticipated traffic impacts / roadwork:
• Temporary highway closures of I-95 NB will continue during the early morning hours Monday through Saturday. These closures are necessary for the completion of steel and concrete deck panel erection for the new Bridge 550 NB structure.
• Additional highway lane closures are possible NB and SB Sunday through Thursday. Right or left lane taken at 9 p.m., second lane taken at 11 p.m. All lanes reopened by 5 a.m.

CumberlandFest just around the corner

CUMBERLAND — The organizers of the upcoming CumberlandFest promise that this year's four-day family festival will have lots of old favorites as well as some new surprises. The 22nd annual event kicks off Friday, Aug. 10.
As was the case the last two years, there will be an expanded fireworks show.

LINCOLN - Charles H. "Chick" Willett, 97, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Epoch Senior Health Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Stella (Ben) Willett and the devoted father of the late Robert D. Willett.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Lazarus H. "Pete" and Christina B. (Kinniburgh) Willett, he had lived in Lincoln for the past 57 years. He attended Pawtucket schools and was a 1932 graduate of Pawtucket High School.

PAWTUCKET - Jules "Chuck" G. Caron, in celebration of his life, lead a full life to the age of 78. He was the son of the late Jules Augustus and Bertha Marie (Duquenoy) Caron, both formerly of Calais, France. He was the devoted and loving husband to Joann S. (Duhamel) Caron for 57 years.

Born in the Cape Verde Islands (Praia) Mrs. Correia was a resident of the Boston area for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Correia is survived by her two daughters, Ana Gomes of Brockton and Maria Feriera of New Bedford; sons Anthony Correia of Boston and Joseph B. Correia also of Boston, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

N.J. team ousts Cumberland from Eastern Regionals

BRISTOL, Conn. – The Cumberland Major Division (ages 11 and 12) All-Star softball team arrived at the end of the line on Thursday afternoon, the team’s magical run culminating in a 4-2 defeat to Robbinsville, N.J. in semifinal-round action of the Eastern Regionals at Breen Field.
The defeat closes Cumberland’s stay at the 10-team tournament, which featured teams from New England and the Mid-Atlantic, at 4-2. In its six games, Cumberland outscored its opponents by a 42-19 margin and outhit them, 49-24.

City man arrested for stabbing man

PAWTUCKET — A 23-year-old city man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested following the stabbing of a Cumberland man on Warwick Road early Wednesday morning.
According to Pawtucket Police Detective Capt. John Seebeck, police received a report that a stabbing had occurred in the vicinity of 28-30 Warwick Road at around 2 a.m. When police arrived, they found a male lying on the sidewalk with multiple knife wounds to his abdomen.

PAWTUCKET - Gregory Scott Sankey, Sr., 47 died Thursday, July 19 that the Miriam Hospital in Providence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Becky" Sankey.
Born in Pawtucket he was the son of Gary Sankey, Diane & Allan Cooper.
Beside his wife and parents, Gregory is survived by his son, Gregory Sankey, Jr., of Pawtucket; three brothers, Todd and Sean both of Pawtucket and Troy of Warwick; a sister, Ronda Sankey of Narragansett and several nieces and nephews.

PAWTUCKET - Manuel A. Sequeira, 63, of Norfolk Avenue, Pawtucket died July 24, 2012.
Mr. Sequeira was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Manuel A. Sequeira and Irene (Fredette) Sequeira.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Sequeira was employed at the Veteran Administration Hospital, Providence in the Printing and Reproduction Department for many years.
He is survived by his sister, Dianne Sequeira and, his brother Donald P. Sequeira and his wife Denise,all of Pawtucket.

Cumberland caps pool play with 8-1 win over Vt. team

BRISTOL, Conn. --- Cumberland certainly did its part in pool play. Now the local Major Division (ages 11 and 12) all-star team will try to produce the three victories it needs to capture its first-ever Eastern Regional softball championship and advance to the Little League World Series.
Cumberland wrapped up its New England portion of the regional tournament with its third victory in four games on Tuesday afternoon by producing an 8-1 victory over winless Swanton, Vt. at Breen Field on the Bart Giamatti Complex.
