PAWTUCKET â€“ One of the suspects in last Friday's alleged home invasion and subsequent hatchet attack on Cole Street has been charged, police said.
Jordan L. Wilcox, 18, of 46 John St., was arrested on a warrant Tuesday night, police Maj. Arthur Martins said. Wilcox was arrested without incident at his John Street apartment, then transported to the Police
Department, where he was held overnight. Wilcox was charged with first-degree robbery, felony assault by use of devices similar in appearance to a firearm, felony assault, and conspiracy, according to police records.

PAWTUCKET - Irene M. (Burns) Rothwell, a devoted and loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Walter Rothwell for 55 years. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late George E., Jr. and Mary (McNally) Burns.

PAWTUCKET – In their first year running Tolman High’s wrestling program, head coach Jason Rushton and assistant Matt Medina are instilling an aggressive approach that may bring dividends by tournament time, assuming the wrestlers keep working hard.
The Tigers showed flashes of skill during a 40-36 loss to Ponaganset on Tuesday evening at the Donaldson Gym. Ponaganset, now 4-1 on the season, jumped out to a 40-9 lead before the Tigers won the final five matches (two by forfeit).
EAST PROVIDENCE â€“ Last year it was a deer. This year it was a young female Lab mix named Gizmo who found herself in an icy situation at Bullocks Cove on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters rescued Gizmo from the frigid waters off Beach Point Road after she escaped from her home and ventured out too far onto ice, falling through about 60 yards from shore.

Janet Barbara Schmitz-Riley
PAWTUCKET - Janet Barbara Schmitz-Riley, 70, of Pawtucket, died January 12, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence. She was the loving wife of William L. Riley, Jr. for twenty two years. Janet was born September 2, 1944 in Boston MA, a daughter of the late James Howard and Frances (Komnatzky) Schmitz.
She grew up in Foxboro, MA and graduated from Foxboro High School in 1963. Janet began as a waitress at Hale's Diner in Foxboro and finished working at Giovanni Jewelry in Providence.
PAWTUCKET – Student-athletes at Tolman and Shea high schools were recently recognized and awarded The Key Player Spirit Award.
This award sponsored by Key Group, Mortgage Division and Spirit Recognition. The award is presented to one athlete from each fall sports team who exemplify perseverance, effort, spirit, sportsmanship, teamwork, role model, determination and academics.

WOONSOCKET â€“ This cityâ€™s loss is apparently East Providenceâ€™s gain, as a Connecticut-based manufacturing company backed out of its plan to take over the vacant Walmart on Diamond Hill Road.
Ardent Retail Displays & Packaging is now under contract to purchase a building located at 275 Ferris Ave. in East Providence, according to Michael Giutarri, a partner in the MG Commercial brokerage company. There is a closing date on the sale, and Ardent has a significant deposit tied up in the deal.

PAWTUCKET - Marlene A. (Amaral) Makepeace, 43, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2015. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of Antonio and Maria (Lopes) Amaral of Pawtucket.
Marlene was a graduate of the University of Phoenix and worked at Daniele Foods, Inc, Pascoag, RI. She was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and candle making. Marlene was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed kickboxing, fishing and board games. Above all, she was a devoted and loving mother. Marlene's three children were the center of her life.
PAWTUCKET - Pappas, Nicholas, 86, died Saturday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the husband of the late Teresa (Lappin) Pappas.
A Pawtucket resident most of his life, he was a son of the late Andrew and Paraskevi (Verras) Pappadopoulos.
He was a facility supervisor for the city of Pawtucket for many years retiring in 1994
He was a World War II Veteran and a lifelong member of the Greek Social Club in Pawtucket.
Maria V. Medeiros
PAWTUCKET - Maria V. Medeiros, 84, of Darlingdale Avenue, passed away Sunday after an illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel C. Medeiros. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, a daughter of the late Joao and Maria Jesus (Rego) Carvalho Nunes.
Maria had lived in Pawtucket more than 43 years and had been employed as an assembler at the former American Insulated Wire Co. for many years before retiring.

Leo R. Laliberte
PAWTUCKET - Leo R. Laliberte, 85, of Oriole Avenue, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend to many, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 after a brief hospitalization surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Arlene F. (Gately) Laliberte for 54 years. Born on July 31, 1929, a son of the late Armand and Ernestine (Carrier) Laliberte, he has been a life-long resident of Pawtucket.
PAWTUCKET - Lillian Joseph 87, one of 14 children born to Manuel and Janet (Howard) Joseph, passed away Friday at The Holiday Retirement Home after an illness. She had lived in Central Falls many years and moved to Pawtucket in 1983. Lillian had been employed at the former Moore Fabrics and also at Conrad Javis Mfg. many years before retiring in 1992. She was an avid bingo player.

PAWTUCKET - Joseph R. "Bob" Trudel, 78, passed on December 22nd in Florida. He was the husband of the late Elize Trudel.
Bob was a lifelong entrepreneur. He also served in the US Army, was former president of the Pawtucket Kiwanis Club, a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus as well as a member of the DAV.
