NORTH PROVIDENCE - Alice Irene (Dion) Issa, 94 of North Providence, RI, loving wife of 71 years to Alphonse Issa, passed away on Monday, December 22 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital with her loving family by her side. Alice was born on August 24, 1920 in Springfield, MA the daughter of Samuel and Lottie Dion.

PAWTUCKET – A guinea pig got loose and couldn’t be found after a man broke apart the animal’s cage by kicking it in the midst of a heated domestic quarrel Sunday, police said.

Barry Joseph Cartin, 40, of 92 Bates St., is facing charges of unnecessary cruelty to an animal, domestic disorderly conduct, and domestic assault and battery, according to Major Arthur Martins.
The episode came to the attention of the police shortly before noon, when a 42-year-old woman came to police headquarters saying her boyfriend had roughed her up.

CUMBERLAND - Helen Borozny, 97, of Cumberland died Monday morning at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island Philip Hulitar Center in Providence. She was the loving wife of the late Michael Borozny, Sr. who died in 1971.
Mrs. Borozny was born and raised in Providence and upon her marriage moved to Cumberland where she resided for over 75 years.
Helen was a dedicated homemaker when raising her family and later worked for Health-Tex in Cumberland. She was a talented cook and enjoyed gardening and keeping up her skills through word-find and crossword puzzles.

ST. CLOUD, FL. - Willard "Will" Lewis Menconi (83 years) of St Cloud, Florida died peacefully in his home on December 10, 2014. He was born on December 3, 1931 in Central Falls, Rhode Island to William Lee Menconi and Leona Le Beau Menconi. Will's brother, 2Lt Lee William Menconi, US Army, sacrificed his life during the VietNam War. Will served in the Korean War with the US Army for two years.
Will is survived by his wife, Donna Mae Jenkins, daughter; Jeanette Girdner and her husband Troy, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

PAWTUCKET - Eugenia "Jean" (Stenovitch) Donato, 73, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014. She was the former wife of Basil Donato. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Amelia (Kogut) Stenovitch.
Jean was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her two granddaughters, Nicole and Julie Donato. She loved reading; cooking and going to dinner with family and friends. Jean was an avid sports fan, she especially enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Born in Burrillville, a son of the late Mary (Locklin) McDonald, he resided in Pawtucket before moving to South Attleboro over forty years ago.

CUMBERLAND - Robert J. Mikula 58, of Lenox Street, passed away Saturday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Edwin and Eleanor M. (Obuchon) Mikula. He was lifelong resident of Cumberland.
He is survived by his brother Anthony E. Mikula of Blackstone, MA., and his sister Elaine George of Cumberland. Three nephews Michael, Matthew and Peter Mikula, two nieces Crystal and Shannon George and one great niece Alana Riendeau.

She is survived by 4 daughters, Barbara Laramee, Sheila Keenan, Donna Petrin and Pamela LaPlante, 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Edward Keenan.

PAWTUCKET - Leatrice S. (Green) Morrison, 91, formerly of Chandler Avenue died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Heritage Hills Nursing Center, Smithfield surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late John F. Morrison.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Beatrice S. (Smith) Green and she summered in Matunuck for many years.
Mrs. Morrison was an office worker for the former Almacs Grocery Stores for 20 years before retiring.

PAWTUCKET - Loretta Monteiro, 64, of Beechwood Street, passed away on Friday after an illness. She was the wife of the late Sgt. John M. Monteiro. She was born in Central Falls a daughter of the late Albert and Loretta (Martin) Victoria and lived most of her life in Pawtucket. Loretta had been employed for many years as a dispatcher for the Pawtucket Police Department.
She is survived by 2 sons, Christopher Monteiro of Cranston and Michael Monteiro of Pawtucket, a sister Linda Valcourt of Cumberland and a brother Michael Bibby of Pawtucket, nieces and nephews.

Tolman Boys' Basketball | Otis & Co. hope to bring Tigers to new heights this season

PAWTUCKET – These are good times for the Tolman High basketball program. The Tigers went 13-5 last season and qualified for the state open tournament. They return most of the key players from that squad and have enhanced this year’s team with a couple of useful new parts.

Coach Mike Kayata’s team is 3-0 so far, winning by an average of 18 points per game. The Tigers were tested on Friday night by a solid North Smithfield team that they eventually wore down on their way to a 91-66 victory.

Man dies in Pawtucket blaze

PAWTUCKET – A local man described to be in his late 50s died after a fire broke out in the kitchen of his 31 Grove St. apartment on Sunday afternoon.

Michael J. Sweeney, chief of investigations for the R.I. Fire Marshal’s Office, said at the scene Sunday that Pawtucket Fire Department companies conducting a fire suppression effort in the first-floor apartment shortly before 2 p.m. encountered the victim in a nearby bedroom.

The man was not breathing and not responsive to efforts to resuscitate him, Sweeney said.

Davies Girls' Basketball | Kelly, Pats earn gratifying 44-32 win over Northmen

LINCOLN  –  Friday night marked the homecoming of Davies Tech senior tri-captain/forward Waleska Kelly, and she sure made the most of it.

Kelly, who had suffered a stroke while playing in a summer high school basketball league in July of 2013, had been granted a waiver by Rhode Island Interscholastic League officials to play a fifth year, and admitted being excited about returning to compete.

PawSox hit a home run for Christmas Fund

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Red Sox organization hit a home run for the community and The Times' annual Merry Christmas Fund, donating $1,000 to benefit the efforts of The Salvation Army of Pawtucket this holiday season.
Jeff Bradley, director of community relations with the Pawtucket Red Sox, said that for over 30 years, the organization has been happy to support the fund, “which supports the community that we feel proud to be a part of, and it's just a small way to give back to help those less fortunate enjoy the holidays.”

Cops: Pair use BB gun in robbery

PAWTUCKET – A local 18-year-old and a juvenile male were charged in connection with a robbery on John Street Tuesday afternoon, in which they allegedly brandished a weapon resembling a shotgun and stole a video game system from a victim's car, authorities said.
