Mitsmenn pitches Collette to victory in third-straight must-win game with gem against top-seeded Post 74

WEST WARWICK  –  With Collette Vacations Post 79 facing their third-straight elimination game on Tuesday, Zach Mitsmenn dazzled the tournament’s top-seeded squad for nine innings, sending home the highly-touted Senerchia Post 74 and propelling Collette into the final day of play at the R.I. American Legion Senior Division Tournament.
 

Under investigation, Caprio resigns as party chairman

PROVIDENCE – With the Rhode Island State Police investigating his role in obtaining a concession contract at three state beaches, RI Democratic Chairman David Caprio has abruptly resigned his party post less than six weeks to go before the Sept. 9 Democratic primary elections.
Providence Rep. Grace Diaz, the party’s vice chairwoman will step into Caprio’s shoes as acting chairwoman. Jonathan Boucher is the party’s executive director.

CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth A. "Bettie" Hogan (Coleman), 79, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at Mt. St. Rita Health Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Hogan.
Born in Cumberland she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Elizabeth (Crozier) Coleman. She was a lifelong Cumberland resident.
Mrs. Hogan was employed by the Secretary of State's Office for 32 years retiring in 1998. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Cumberland.

PAWTUCKET - Fleming, John A. Sr., "Johnny Ajax" (Olneyville John #1), 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27th. He leaves his loving wife Linda (Bruce) Fleming, four children John A. Fleming, Jr. of Warwick, Deborah Potter of Pawtucket, Eric Fleming of Providence, Patrick Fleming of Warwick; his stepdaughter, Crystal Bruce of Providence and 10 grandchildren.
He was born in Providence the son of the late Edwin and Gertrude (Mann) Fleming; brother of the late Norman Mann and Bob Mann. John was a cousin to Davey Lopes of the L.A. Dodgers.

SOUTH ATTLEBORO - Joan (Dutra) Soufy, 71, of South Attleboro, passed away peacefully July 28, 2014.
She was the beloved wife of Charles J. Soufy, Sr.
Joan was born in Providence, a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Dutra.
Mrs. Soufy was a seamstress, by trade, and owned S & S Sewing for five years. She also worked at her son's auto body shop for the last 10 years.
