CUMBERLAND --- For the past few years, the sand volleyball courts in the back of Fore Court Racquet & Fitness Club on Cray Street had been vacant and pretty much forgotten.
But when a club member approached Dave Morin, the president and general manager of Fore Court, about the possibility of transforming the big outdoor space into a training center for obstacle racing, the wheels went into motion.
Mary L. Lopes
ARIZONA - Mary L. Lopes, 92, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2014. Born in Portugal, Mary came to America as a baby and resided most of her life in Cumberland, Rhode Island. Mary spent her later years in Arizona with her daughter and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary L. Wareham, grandchildren; Amy Wareham, David L. Wareham and Jeremy Conrad Wareham; four great-grandchildren and brother, Abel Lopes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lopes.
Clementina R. Desrosiers
CUMBERLAND - Clementina R. (Lopes) Desrosiers, 87, of North Carolina and previously of Murphy Drive in Cumberland passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House, Statesville, NC. She was the beloved wife of Pete Desrosiers, and they had been happily married for 36 years. She was previously married to Norberto Coutinho who passed away in 1974.
Born in Guarda, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Rosa (Raposo) Lopes. She resided in Statesville, NC for the past 30 years, previously residing in Cumberland.
Edward Wilks Jr.
PAWTUCKET- Edward Wilks Jr. 74, passed away Thursday May 15, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Bator) Wilks.
Born in Pawtucket he was a son of the late Edward and Tessie ( Wojcik ) Wilks Sr. He was a life long resident of Pawtucket.
Before retiring Mr. Wilks was employed as a Supervisor for Hasbro Industries for 40 years.
Besides his wife he leaves one loving son Edward R. Wilks and his wife Elaine of Pawtucket, one devoted grandson Kyle Wilks, one sister Carol A. Ouellette and one brother Robert Townsend both of Florida.
Leo J. Lachance
EAST FALMOUTH - Leo J. Lachance, 89, of East Falmouth and formerly of South Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Mabell B. (Curtis) Lachance. Born in Central Falls, RI, the son of the late Henri and Malvina (Robidoux) Lachance, he resided in South Attleboro until moving to East Falmouth in 1995.
Leo was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the proprietor of Dottieâ€™s Caterers, Pawtucket, RI for fifty years until retiring in 1995.
Herbert H. Entwistle
LINCOLN - Herbert H. Entwistle, 96, of Lincoln passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 14, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. Herby was born in Pawtucket on March 11, 1918 to the late Herbert and Mary Evelyn (Martin) Entwistle.
He served as an MP in the U.S. Army during World War II completing tours in North Africa and Italy. Upon returning from the War, he married the love of his life, Doris (Crooks) on September 22, 1945.
Herby worked as a Master Plumber throughout Rhode Island for many years before retiring.
