PAWTUCKET — Moses Brown came looking to spoil St. Raphael Academy’s bid for a perfect 16-0 regular season on Tuesday night at Alumni Hall.
The Saints had defeated the Quakers by 21 points in mid-January. That was a rare off night for the visitors, who carried an 11-3 record in Division II action into this playoff tuneup for both sides.

CENTRAL FALLS – Napoleon Andrade, a local man already doing 10 years in federal prison on weapons, money-laundering and theft charges, was sentenced to an additional 31 months Tuesday for his role in a home invasion targeting an associate of the Gambino crime family in Connecticut.
During a sentencing hearing in Providence, U.S. District Judge John McConnell ordered Andrade to serve 63 months in all. But McConnell structured the penalty so that 32 months overlap Andrade’s current term and the balance kicks in when it’s completed, U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha said.

McGair: Ten years later, Friars have a chance to atone for '04 Pittsburgh game

March 4, 2014

PROVIDENCE – Call it the definition of a Friar full circle.

The Providence College men’s basketball contest that took place March 2, 2004 isn’t referenced in the sections of the media guide devoted to noteworthy dates and games in program history, and with good reason: On that night, nothing went right. Pittsburgh waltzed into the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and laid a major hurt on the Ryan Gomes-led and Tim Welsh-coached Friars, rolling to a stunningly easy 88-61 victory.

“I remember,” said PC Athletic Director Bob Driscoll when reached Monday.
