Pawtucket Pacers celebrate 15th anniversary

As always before each practice session, head coach Lisa Bessette addressed her Pawtucket Pacers on Tuesday night, detailing what four groups of athletes would be doing for the next 75 minutes to prepare for the upcoming Special Olympics Rhode Island's Northern Area Games, those slated for Saturday, May 3 at Bryant University.
She stood in the middle of the Francis J. Varieur Elementary School's cafeteria/gymnasium, laying down the groundwork not only for that competition but also the SORI's State Games at the University of Rhode Island beginning May 30.

When House Speaker Gordon Fox banged the gavel to close last Thursday’s session of the House of Representatives, he had no idea he was performing that function for the last time.
In one whirlwind weekend, the State Police and federal agents raided Fox’s home and his Statehouse offices, Fox resigned the speakership, and that touched off palace intrigue and plots to take the crown in political huddles in different parts of the state.

Teacher accused of assault

PAWTUCKET—A Slater Junior High School teacher was charged Thursday with assaulting a 13-year-old student in an incident that allegedly occurred at the school on March 18.
The teacher has been identified as Richard C. Koster, 49, of 142 Warren Ave., Cranston.

PAWTUCKET - Kathleen B. Messier of Pawtucket died on March 26, 2014 from complications associated with Alzheimers Disease. She was the wife of George Messier. They had been married 58 years.
Mrs. Messier was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (McCabe) Regan.
