Cranston Mayor Allan Fung says R.I.’s next governor must be committed to changing the state’s economic climate

Rhode Island’s nation-worst unemployment rate, its lagging economy and projected out-year budget deficits in the hundreds of millions makes being governor a difficult job.

Allan Fung, a Republican running to be the next governor, says that is exactly what makes the position attractive to him.

“I want those challenges, I want those responsibilities; I really do,” the three-term Cranston mayor said in an interview on Wednesday with The Times. “It’s not about a title. It’s about the challenges this state is going to face and whoever is going to be governor, he has to be ready for it.

Mrs. Morgan was born in Central Falls, the daughter of the late Charles Sistakavskas and Mary (Zadonis) Sistakavskas. She worked in the textile industry in Central Falls for many years.

CENTRAL FALLS - Zygmunt Jedrzejczyk, 57, passed away Tuesday February 25, 2014 at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Halina (Wojsznis) Jedrzejczyk.
Born in Poland he was a son of the late Jan and Maria (Jarocka) Jedrzejczyk.
He was employed as a Machine Operator for Hi-Tech Metal Inc. of Bellingham, MA.
Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Agnieszka Kuzminska, Justyna Janas and Katarzyna Chrostek all of Poland. He also leaves five grandchildren. He was one of fifteen children.

PAWTUCKET - Maria C. Martins (Mello) 64, of Pawtucket died February 25, 2014. She was the wife of Francisco L. Martins. Mrs. Martins was born in Terceira, Azores. Daughter of the late Francisco C. and Evangelina (Ramos) Mello.
She came to this country forty four years ago settling in Pawtucket. Mrs. Martins was a member of St. Anthony's Church and Groupo Amigos Da Terceira.

One of the selling points General Treasurer Gina Raimondo employed in
pushing for the pension settlement you may have seen something about in the news lately is that it brings "certainty" and "finality" in that it puts an end not only to the slew of lawsuits challenging the 2011 law, but also the court challenges to the 2009 and 2010 pension reform efforts.
