PAWTUCKET â€” Speaking with Slater Mill Museumâ€™s new executive director Lori Urso, one finds a person who is historically grounded while creatively edgy. That unique blend seems to make her tailor-made to lead the renowned textile industry museum as it looks to expand its reach and mission.
PAWTUCKET â€” It was a colorful way to spend Martin Luther King Day. While students and most of the staff enjoyed the Monday off, about 170 AmeriCorps volunteers descended upon Goff Middle School to paint the hallways in cheery citrus yellows and greens.

PAWTUCKET - HARDY, LAURA A. (KELSAY), of Pawtucket died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 19, 2014. She was the wife of the late John G. Hardy. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. Kelsay and Nativa (Bourassa) Kelsay.
Mrs. Hardy worked for the Pawtucket School Department for the last 25 years, most recently as secretary for the Title 1 Program and the Alternative Learning Program.
She was a communicant at St. Teresa's Church, Pawtucket, a longtime Mary Kay consultant, and a member of the Red Hat Society.
PAWTUCKET - Barbara Wright, 79, entered into eternal life on Saturday at Woonsocket Health Center after an illness. She was the wife of Stephen Wright. Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Francis "Bibby" McDermott and Irene (Railton) McDermott.
Barbara had lived in Swansea for 2 years and also in Attleboro for more than 15 years and more recently in Pawtucket for more than 15 years. She had been employed in the jewelry manufacturing industry at Dante Jewelry, Darlene Jewelry and also at Charisma Creations. Barbara was an avid gardener prior to her illness.
Ralph C. Ames
CUMBERLAND - Ralph C. Ames of Cumberland entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
Mr. Ames was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late George E. Ames and Ruth E. (Bardsley) Ames. He was employed at The Arc of Blackstone Valley for many years.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m, in the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket.

Jessie K. Bolandz
ATTLEBORO - Jessie K. Bolandz, 90, died peacefully Thursday January 16, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander R. Bolandz.
Born in Pawtucket, RI she was a daughter of the late Wojciech and Jadwiga (Kuczek) Kapinos.
The essence of Jessie's life was her unwavering dedication to her faith and her family.
PAWTUCKET â€“ Eventually, Alex Wilson arrived at the understanding that his ability to properly grip a baseball had been compromised.
What was originally deemed a sprained right thumb last July evolved into something far more problematic to the point where surgery went from a potential last resort to being inevitable. Wilson admitted that everything â€śwas tried under the sun.â€ť From having the thumb placed in a cast and later a splint, all of the precautions taken were done with an eye toward eventually returning to Bostonâ€™s bullpen.
