Dr. Clifford S. Jackson

LACONIA, NH - Dr. Clifford S. Jackson, 96 of 406 Court Street, died at the St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Tuesday, January 8, 2013.
Dr. Jackson was born July 12, 1916 in Quidnick, Rhode Island, the son of the late Edward and Susannah (Wilkinson) Jackson. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II.
Dr. Jackson attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, R.I. and was a Doctor of Chiropractic graduate of the Palmer School of Chiropractic.

McKee sworn in for sixth time

CUMBERLAND — Mayor-elect Daniel J. McKee took the oath of office at an inaugural ceremony held Jan. 6 in the Blackstone River Theater.
McKee, 61, ran unopposed in the November general election, winning a sixth term as Cumberland's mayor.
Among those attending the ceremony last Sunday were state Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin and Congressman David Cicilline, as well as a contingent of state representatives and fellow mayors and town administrators.

Chafee tours Anchor Center

PAWTUCKET — Gov. Lincoln Chafee's eyes widened when he was shown the chock-full January activities calendar for the Anchor Recovery Community Center in Pawtucket. On any given day, there were six or seven entries for meetings that ranged from Alcoholics Anonymous and quit smoking clinics to health lectures and specialized yoga classes.

Jose Augusto DeAfonseca of Bagley Street, Pawtucket died January 8, 2013. He was the husband of Guilhermina (Santos) DeAfonseca.
Mr. DeAfonseca was born in Cape Verde, Portugal, the son of the late Augusto and Adelina (Coelo) DeAnfonseca. He worked for Exxon Mobile for many years.
Mr. DeAfonseca is survived by his daughters, Andelina and Debby DeFonseca of Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET - Theresa "Terry" (Sorel) Casavant, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Edgar E. Casavant. They were married in Jacksonville, Florida and then returned to Pawtucket where they made their home and raised their family for over sixty years.

PAWTUCKET - Lino A. Macedo, 75 of Pawtucket died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital of Pawtucket. He was the husband of Maria F. (Lopes) Macedo. Born in Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio Macedo and Margarida Oliveira. Lino came to the US in 1967 and settled in California. He came to Pawtucket many years ago.
Prior to his retirement he was a machine operator at Carol Cable Company in Lincoln for 30 years. He was a member of the Portuguese Social Club.

PAWTUCKET - Lillian Fontaine, 80, of Main Street, Pawtucket passed away at home on January 8, 2013. She was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Augustin Fontaine and Linnie (Campbell) Fontaine. Lillian was employed at the Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket for many years.
Lillian is survived by her children: Michele Fontaine of Seekonk, Massachusetts and Michael Fontaine of Cranston. She also leaves her grandchildren Robert Fontaine and Katie Cabral and a sister Louise Madden of South Carolina. Lillian was the sister of the late Augustin Fontaine.

CUMBERLAND - Mary C. (Queija) Nobrega, 93, formerly of Waumsett Avenue, passed away Wednesday in the Holiday Retirement Center, Manville. She was the wife of the late Mario Nobrega.
Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Beatriz Queija. She was a life-long resident of Cumberland.
Mrs. Nobrega was employed at the Miller Electric Company for many years until her retirement.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

She was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Benoit) Gauthier. She was a resident of the Blackstone Valley most of her life until retiring to Florida.

Two indicted on robbery, conspiracy charges

PROVIDENCE — A 22-year-old Pawtucket man was indicted by a Providence County Grand Jury on Jan. 4 on robbery and conspiracy charges.
Rosivelte Lopes, of Jefferson Avenue, was indicted with one count of first degree robbery and conspiracy, according to the Office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. It is alleged that on or about Oct. 5, 2012, Lopes and two unidentified co-conspirators robbed an individual, with the robbery being in the first degree. The alleged incident took place in Pawtucket, and the Pawtucket Police conducted the investigation.

CENTRAL FALLS - Helen F. Kwiatkowski 86, passed away Thursday December 27, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Chester S. Kwiatkowski.
Born in Central Falls she was one of ten children born to the late Ignacy and Anna ( Gadomska) Wojcik. She lived in Central Falls for the past 12 years and was formerly of Johnston.
Before retiring Mrs. Kwiatkowski was employed as a Spot Welder at Texas Instruments for 20 years. She was a member of the Fierlit-Korzen Post A.L. Post #79 Ladies Auxiliary of Central Falls.
