EAST PROVIDENCE â€“ Friday marked the four-year anniversary of an unsolved arson and hate crime in the city, and even though the case remains cold, East Providence police say they are still reviewing all aspects of the investigation in hopes of developing further leads.
On Sept. 27, 2009, anti-Semitic graffiti, including swatiskas and a racial slur, were spray-painted on a Ferris Avenue home in Rumford before the back of it was set on fire with an accelerant. A family sleeping in the home was able to get out safely, but the suspect responsible for setting the fire was never caught.
LINCOLN â€“ Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academyâ€™s Drew Madden, 27, admits skydiving was never really on his list of things to do someday.
But that wonâ€™t keep Madden from bailing out of a plane over Middletown this afternoon with Commissioner of Education Deborah A. Gist.
Madden, a noted math instructor for the Blackstone Valley Prep charter school network serving Lincoln, Cumberland, Central Falls and Pawtucket, made a commitment over the summer to support the middle schoolâ€™s reading program, and his skydiving excursion is the payoff of that endeavor.
PAWTUCKET â€” It seems a lot of photographers have an idea about what represents a slice of life in Pawtucket. Over 300 submissions were received for the cityâ€™s 15th annual Photo Contest under the theme â€śA Piece of Pawtucket.â€ť

PAWTUCKET - John C. McGinnes, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Nina M. (Batchelder) McGinnes for 54 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Francis and Julia (Nichols) McGinnes.
Ruth J. Microulis
PAWTUCKET - Ruth J. (Pinsoneault) Microulis, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Microulis. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Garland) Pinsoneault.
Ruth was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary's of both St. Leo the Great Parish and St. Raphael Academy.
Richard W. Robbins
PROVIDENCE - Richard W. Robbins died Monday, September 23, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the husband of Nancy Martin Robbins.
He was born in May 21, 1927 in Riverton, NJ. Recently living in the Elmwood section of Providence, but for many years he made his home across from the historic Dexter Training Grounds in Providence. He found a great sense of community in this area of the city which he fondly referred to as Armory Village.
