Lincoln crushes N.H.; rematch with Vermont on tap

BRISTOL, Conn. — As soon as Little League New England Regional Tournament officials asked the Lincoln All-Stars to walk to home plate to greet “Dugout,” the event’s mascot, Aaron DeSousa knew what was coming
.
Together with foe Rye, N.H., they performed the dance accompanying the tune prior to their contest, and it looked like they had a blast doing it.

“I remember other teams doing that from years before, when I was watching on TV,” DeSousa said. “I kind of expected it once they called us over. While we were dancing, it took all the butterflies away. I just didn’t feel as nervous.”

Chief: State hinders tribe's efforts

The Narragansett Indian Tribe is still in the courts, challenging a Rhode Island Superior Court ruling that rejected the tribe’s claim that the 2012 Twin River table games referendum violated the same constitutional provisions that halted previous attempts by the Narragansetts to establish their own casino.

Woonsocket block party will rock

WOONSOCKET – Organizers of the biggest block party on the East Coast have announced the entertainment lineup for a dozen stages that will stretch for a half-mile through downtown.
It’s all part of the city’s 125th anniversary celebration scheduled for Aug. 29, spearheaded by Mayor Leo T. Fontaine and a dedicated band of volunteers. The Call is the designated media partner for the event.
Stage 1, at 2 Main St., will feature the Meadowlarks, a big band group with a dozen members.
Stage 2, 20 Main St. will feature country music with a band to be announced.

Edward J. Soares

LINCOLN - Edward J. Soares, 64, passed on August 5th. He was the husband of Pamela (Casto) Soares.
He was the son of the late Edward and Madeline (Teixiera) Soares.
He had been employed by Capital City for many years. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Edward and John Soares and three grandchildren, John Soares Jr, Mariah and Jordan Soares.

PAWTUCKET - Jozef Kucal, 80, passed away Monday April 5, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Anna (Iwaszko) Kucal.
Born in Sompolno, Poland he was a son of the late Janek and Antonina (Oliniczek) Kucal. He lived in Pawtucket for the past 49 years.
Before retiring he was employed as a Machine Operator at ITT Royal Electric and prior to that he worked as a Meat Cutter for Hi-Lo Meat Market.
