Fielding position, holding runners top areas that require PawSox' Ranaudo's attention

PAWTUCKET — As PawSox manager Gary DiSarcina and pitching coach Rich Sauveur deftly explained, there are certain and significant areas that require Anthony Ranaudo’s attention.

Mind you this particular topic has nothing to do with Ranaudo’s ability to throw a baseball. In the promising righthander’s case, what DiSarcina and Sauveur are implying is that Ranaudo comprehends the importance of his “other” duties, such as fielding the position and holding runners.

New RIIL realignment guidelines to take effect in 2014-15

PROVIDENCE — Perhaps there’s no way getting around it. Coming up with a realignment proposal that soothes the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s masses is not as simple or straightforward as snapping one’s fingers.

That said, a few ruffled feathers has not impeded the realignment committee branch of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (RIIAAA) from coming up with a solution that on the surface could help foster the kind of harmony that has been elusive whenever this particular topic is mentioned.

Crews make repairs to railroad bridge

PAWTUCKET – The $4.3 million project by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to replace the crumbling Conant Street Railroad Bridge, which carries Conant Street over Amtrak and the Providence and Worcester Railroads between Mineral Spring Avenue and Barton and Weeden streets, is moving forward.
As of this week, the new concrete bridge deck has been cured and installation of granite curbing and sidewalks has begun. Preparations are also under way for the installation of new water and gas mains.

PAWTUCKET - Frederick T. Borek, 87, formerly of Carter Avenue passed away Sunday August 18, 2013 at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.
Born in Central Falls he was a son of the late Walter and Bertha A. (Gontaski) Borek.
Before retiring Fred was employed as a Industrial and Commercial Building Appraisal Engineer for Factory Mutual Inc. of Norwood, MA.
He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving as a Seaman First Class.
Mr. Borek leaves several cousins.

Violet Marcotte

NORTH PROVIDENCE - Marcotte, Violet, 84, of North Providence, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013. She was the wife of Charles Marcotte. Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Samia (Kishfy) Raheb.
Violet was a secretary for the Pawtucket School Department for 13 years, retiring in 1986.
