PAWTUCKET — Was Bryce Brentz resigned to the possibility that his season was over upon undergoing significant surgery to his right knee? A rollover-and-surrender attitude wouldn’t fit the PawSox outfielder’s hard-charging persona now, would it?

That said, the power hitter is a realist and understands the slippery slope that comes with accelerating the rehab timetable in order to return to the field this season.

BRISTOL — Milliseconds after southpaw Brendan Wright had fielded an easy grounder and thrown to first baseman Jayden Struble for the final out on Thursday evening, Cumberland American's All-Stars came from all directions to celebrate mere feet in front of home plate.
Not surprisingly, the one on the bottom of the pile happened to be second baseman Johnny Belisle, one of the more vociferous members of this splendid contingent.

Group vows to target lawmakers who supported gay marriage

PROVIDENCE —The first same-sex marriage ceremonies in Rhode Island were conducted on Thursday, but if you think that is the end of the long political battle on the issue you have another think coming.
The National Organization for Marriage, a national group opposed to gay marriage, said Thursday that it would sink $100,000 into next year’s elections in Rhode Island to “hold politicians accountable for this travesty.” It pledged an additional $500,000 for the same purpose in Minnesota, where same-sex nuptials also became legal on Thursday.

PAWTUCKET - Barone, Matthew J., 37, of Harrison Street, Pawtucket, passed away on July 30, 2013.
He was born in Pawtucket, a son of Arthur Barone and Sheree A. Desmarias. He worked at Whole Foods.
Besides his parents, Matthew is survived by his brother Joshua Barone of Pawtucket, his nephew Evan Barone and his grandmother, Jeannette Scungio and his longtime partner, Sandra Greene.
