BARRINGTON â Local legend Billy Andrade knew he and playing partner Bill Haas slowly had been creeping up the leaderboard at this 15th annual CVS Caremark Charity Classic on humid Tuesday, but never knew just how close they were to the front-runners, the duo of Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt.
When Haas knocked down a 10-foot birdie putt on the 452-yard, par-four 13th to move he and Andrade to 19-under, the board just behind the green indicated they had sliced the gap to a mere shot.
BARRINGTON â Thereâs always something so reassuring when an event such as the CVS Caremark Charity Classic concludes on this note, âSee you next year.â
The words â echoed by Bristol native and co-host Billy Andrade shortly after the winning tandem of Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt took their bows on the 18th green at Rhode Island Country Club â helped in providing reassurance that the CVS event will feature a 16th installment.
PAWTUCKET â Will Middlebrooks does not need Pawtucket manager Gary DiSarcina or hitting coach Dave Joppie â two names who have previous player-coach relationships with the scuffling third baseman â to get in his face and flat-out tell the owner of a .192 big-league batting average this season where the areas of improvement lie.
âHe knows what he needs to do,â said DiSarcina in anticipation of Middlebrooksâ arrival at McCoy Stadium on Wednesday, one day after getting informed by Boston skipper John Farrell that his season-long offensive funk had earned him a demotion to the Triple-A ranks.
BLACKSTONE â The hot and humid weather Tuesday was no hindrance to Lou Ryan as she made her way into the Municipal Center with her daughter, Sharon Finn, of New Hampshire, to vote in the special state election filling U.S. Senator John Kerryâs vacant seat senate.
LINCOLN â A local pain management clinic has received a federal court subpoena for records tied to a national outbreak of fungal meningitis resulting from tainted pharmaceuticals last year.
Ocean State Pain Management of Blackstone Valley Place is one of 76 clinics around the country that federal health officials say dispensed contaminated drugs from New England Compounding Pharmacy in Framingham.
