PROVIDENCE â€“ After 17 long and frequently contentious years of political and legislative struggle, Rep. Gordon Fox, the first openly gay Speaker of the House, brought down his gavel Thursday and announced that the bill to allow same-sex marriage in Rhode Island passed by an overwhelming 56-15 vote.
Mary M. Vecoli
LINCOLN - Mary M. Vecoli, 91, of Lincoln, died Wednesday. She was the wife of the late Guido Vecoli Jr. Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Josephine (Hannon) Fay.
Mrs. Vecoli was employed for the State of RI School Lunch Program until her retirement.
Her sons Donald T. Vecoli of Florida and David B. Vecoli of Lincoln; her brother Edward J. Fay of Texas; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren survive her. She was the sister of the late Bernice Lilley and Vera Tellier.
Jean-Paul R. Houle
GREENVILLE - Jean-Paul R. "Jay" Houle, 82, of Austin Ave. and formerly of Cumberland passed away Wednesday in the Philip Hulitar Center, Providnce. He was the beloved husband of Ellen M. (Berthiaume) Houle, they had been married for the past 61 years.
Born in Central Falls he was the son of the late Achille and Bernadette (Sawyer) Houle. He resided in Johnston for the past three years and had resided in Cumberland for 27 years and previously residing in Central Falls.
PROVIDENCE â€“ Police Chief Michael Kehoe of Newtown, Conn., who was a first responder when 20 children and six educators were slaughtered at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in his community last December, warned Wednesday that, â€śThe tragedies felt by Newtown and other communities can be repeated if affirmative action is not taken.â€ť
CUMBERLAND - Vincent Gesualdi, 73, of Heroux Blvd., died April 28, 2013 in North Attleboro, MA. He was the husband of the late Eileen O. (Dubois) Gesualdi. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Francisco and Rosaria (Decotis) Gesualdi.
He was a 1957 graduate of Woonsocket High School and earned his Bachelor's degree from Bryant University in 1972. Vincent worked for many years as a traffic manager for Union Wadding Co., Pawtucket, retiring in 2005. He served in the United States Navy and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.

PAWTUCKET - Frank Martino, 85, of Pawtucket, RI, passed away surrounded by his loving daughters on April 30, 2013. He was predeceased by his loving wife Despa Martino. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June 2013.
