LINCOLN â€” To be blunt, Lincoln High head coach Mike Ethier didnâ€™t approve of his squadâ€™s overall desire during the opening half of its R.I. Division III Tournament quarterfinal tilt against Cranston West on windy Thursday afternoon.
The Lions had held a 3-2 advantage at the break, but Ethier and his assistants let loose on the contingent, explaining they wanted to see more spirit and fundamentally-sound lacrosse over the final 24 minutes.

PAWTUCKET â€” Was it just old age? The reason for the sudden collapse of an original ceiling in the nearly century-old Potter-Burns Elementary School was being investigated by city officials and architects on Thursday as the school remains closed at least until Tuesday.
Theyâ€™re known as The Flying Squadron, an ever-changing group of Uxbridge veterans who have made it a Memorial Day tradition over the past 138 years to visit local schoolchildren with a simple message: The final Monday of May is not just the start of summer vacation season, but a time to honor Americans who died while serving in the U.S. military.
The squadron, which is made up today of 20 town veterans divided into two units, will conduct its 139th consecutive visitation to town schools on Friday to kick off the townâ€™s Memorial Day observances.
PAWTUCKET - Mary Thomas, neĂ© Doyle, passed peacefully from this world on May 22, surrounded by her family. Born on May 11, 1946 to Beatrice and Laurence Doyle, Mary is survived by her brother Larry Doyle and his wife, Kathy, her daughter Lori Thomas, her grandson Justin Thomas and his wife, Danielle Thomas, her son, Dennis Thomas and Dennis's partner, Craig Pishotti. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Richard Thomas.
Born and raised in Rhode Island, Mary was a longtime resident of Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET - Robert J. "Bob" Bliss, 84, of Winter Garden, Florida and formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2013. Born on September 20, 1928 in Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Collinson) Bliss.
