CUMBERLAND â€“ He was known as â€śButchâ€ť by his friends and neighbors at Victorian Court, a small, tight-knit condominium complex on Nate Whipple Highway where neighbors often gather outside on a Sunday morning to share small talk over coffee.
On Monday, many of those same neighbors were expressing shock and disbelief after Butch, 73, and his 70-year-old wife were found dead in what police say was a murder-suicide while their daughter and grandchildren were in the coupleâ€™s 301 Nate Whipple Highway home on Easter Sunday.

EAST PROVIDENCE - Steakem, Hilda, age 82, of Kenton Ave., died March 31, 2013 at Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of the late James J. Steakem. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late John and Gloria (Raposa) Carreira.
Hilda worked as a secretary for ITT Royal for over 40 years before retiring.
She is survived by her sister Elaine Callender of N. Providence and 7 nieces and nephews.
Sylvie L. San Bento
NORTH PROVIDENCE - Sylvie L. (Fortin) San Bento, 50, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 30, 2013 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous fight with ovarian cancer.
James F. Stauff
PAWTUCKET - James F. Stauff, 85, of Pawtucket, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013. He was the husband of the late Frances (Matonis) Stauff. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Charles and Agnes (O'Brien) Stauff. Mr Stauff worked for Munroe Dairy for many years, retiring in 1999.
PAWTUCKET - Ferdinando Moniz, 80, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Maria T. (Gomes) Moniz for fifty-one years.
Born in Madeira, Portugal, he was a son of the late Joao and Maria (Camara) Moniz. He came to the United States in 1969 and settled in Central Falls before moving to Pawtucket over thirty years ago. Ferdinando was employed by Larson Tool until retiring, and was a member of the Madeira Club, Central Falls.
Job de Jesus Durango
PROVIDENCE - Job de Jesus Durango 83, died Friday March 29, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Center, Providence. He was the husband of Maria (Novoa) Durango.
Born in Urrao Ant. Colombia, a son of the late Jesus and Carlina (Fernandez) Durango.
Mr. Durango was a truck driver.
Besides his wife, he leaves Gabriel Durango, Gladis Gutierrez, Rosa Durango, Job Durango, Guillermo Durango, Leonel Durango, Carlos Mario Durango and Maria Clelia Restrepo. Seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Crystal Lee Barney Downes
PAWTUCKET - Crystal Lee Barney Downes, 32, died March 27th at the Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket. She was the fiance of Kevin Santos.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Robert Barney and Louise Dube, step-daughter of Margaret Barney.
Alice A. Stempien
PAWTUCKET - Alice A. Stempien, 90, passed away Friday March 29, 2013 on her birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond A. Stempien.
Born in Fall River, MA she was a daughter of the late Leon and Adela (Niksa) Stefanski. She lived in Pawtucket most of her life.
Alice enjoyed sewing and loved animals.
She leaves one son Adam Stempien, one devoted granddaughter Tasha L. Daigle and her husband Jason R. Daigle Sr. of Pawtucket. Mrs. Stempien also leaves two loving grandchildren, Jason R. Jr. and Kelsey J. Daigle. She was the sister of the late Walter Stefanski.

PAWTUCKET â€” Mellany Rodas, 18, a senior at St. Raphael Academy and a Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket member for five years, has been named the Clubâ€™s 2013 Youth of the Year.
Rodas, of Central Falls, was chosen from a pair of youth nominees during the annual Youth of the Year dinner at the Alfred Elson, Jr. Clubhouse on Tuesday, March 26. Rodas has been accepted to URI and Newbury College and aspires to career options in physical therapy or sociology. She is a steadying presence at home with her three sisters and mother, contributing to her family through working, caring and maturity.
