PAWTUCKET â After ending a 28-year Governorsâ Cup drought last season, the Pawtucket Red Sox will defend their title while holding true to the organizationâs No. 1 creed â put players in a position where if an opportunity arises in Boston, theyâre ready to answer the call.
PAWTUCKET --- After hitting bullets last September to help spark the Pawtucket Red Soxâs magical run to the Governorsâ Cup championship, Bryce Brentz nearly had a bullet end his 2013 season long before it began.
What started out as a routine cleaning of a handgun three months ago in his Knoxville, Tenn. home nearly resulted in tragedy for the power-hitting right fielder, who was tabbed as the No. 8 ranked prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization by Baseball America.
PROVIDENCE â In his travels around the state following the 2012-13 season, whenever Ed Cooley has crossed paths Providence College basketball fans, they have met him with big smiles and thanks for providing hope for the future.
As far away as it may seem, PCâs fan base canât wait for the 2013-14 season to tip off. Blanche J. (Champagne) LaPerche
ATTLEBORO - Blanche Jeannette (Champagne) LaPerche, 101, of Christopher Heights, South Main Street, Attleboro; formerly of F. J. Kelley Boulevard, North Attleboro, died peacefully surrounded by loving family members and the auspices of hospice at her residence on Monday, April 1, 2013. She was the wife of the late Aurele H. LaPerche who died in 1974.
Born in Lincoln, Rhode Island on October 20, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Oscar A. and Delia (Couture) Champagne.
She was a 1929 graduate of the former Pawtucket High School.
Maria Conceicao Albuquerque
PAWTUCKET - Maria "Connie" Conceicao Albuquerque, 94, a retired seamstress, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Mario Albuquerque. Born in Portugal, a daughter of the late Felismino and Deolinda (Quinteiro) Caetano, she came to the United States at the age of thirteen years and settled in Pawtucket. Connie was a member of the Portuguese Clubs of Pawtucket.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL. - Raymond Collette of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Cumberland died March 17, 2013.
Raymond leaves 3 sons, 1 brother and 9 sisters. He was preceded in death by one son.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 195 Walcott Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Thomas Francis McNeil
RAYMOND, NH - Thomas Francis McNeil, 65, died unexpectedly on April 1, 2013 at his home In Raymond, NH. He was born January 2, 1948 in Providence, R.I., son of the late Thomas John McNeil and Eunice Jean (Hardman) McNeil.
Tom grew up in R.I. and MA. He was an United States Navy veteran from 1965-1968, serving some time in Africa and Prudence Island, R.I., during the Vietnam War. In Rhode Island, Tom was proud to own and operate for 10 years, Action Rooter. He had resided in Raymond, NH for the past 17 years.
Kenneth G. Berg
PAWTUCKET - Kenneth G. Berg, of Lauder Avenue, Pawtucket died on April 2, 2013. He was the husband of the late Jean M. (Russell) Berg.
Mr. Berg was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Axel G. Berg and Winifred I. (Austin) Berg. He was a lace weaver at the former Seekonk Lace for many years.
Mr. Berg is survived by his children, Gary A. Berg, Larry K. Berg and his wife Beverly, Cheryl Curti, and Susan Allison all of Pawtucket. He also leaves his sisters Eleanor Weissman and Frances Tvenstrvp, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Sallie Ann Mulhern
PAWTUCKET- Mulhern, Sallie Ann (Gately) 75, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, in Providence. She was the loving wife of John F. Mulhern. They were married for 46 years.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Martin F and Sallie E. (Dunne) Gately.
She was a retail clerk for the former Sears & Roebuck; Ann & Hope, and Building 19 department stores for 35 years until her retirement.
Sallie was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket.
CUMBERLAND â He was known as âButchâ by his friends and neighbors at Victorian Court, a small, tight-knit condominium complex on Nate Whipple Highway where neighbors often gather outside on a Sunday morning to share small talk over coffee.
On Monday, many of those same neighbors were expressing shock and disbelief after Butch, 73, and his 70-year-old wife were found dead in what police say was a murder-suicide while their daughter and grandchildren were in the coupleâs 301 Nate Whipple Highway home on Easter Sunday.
