Robert J. Pickett

LINCOLN- Robert J. Pickett, 66, formerly of Walker Avenue, passed away Sunday in the U.S. Veterans Hospital, West Roxbury, MA.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late William J. and Lucina (Rooney) Pickett. He resided in Norton, MA, for the past 7 years.
He served his county honorably in the United States Army during Vietnam.
Bob was an avid golfer. He was a past president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Broad Street, Cumberland.

PAWTUCKET - Frances M (Goff) Kane, 68, of Pawtucket, RI passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013.
She was the daughter of the late Francis Goff, the late Miriam (Parker) Sainsbury and step-daughter to the late Norman Sainsbury. She is the sister of Olive Laramee, the late David Goff, and the late Phyllis Lemire.

PAWTUCKET - James A. Grant, 79, of Pawtucket, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late William and Esther (Barton) Grant. James was a machine operator for Texas Instruments for many years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne for the Army. He was an avid bowler and played on many leagues. In his later years he took up sculpting amazing life-size statues.

PROVIDENCE - Bouris, Charles N. "Dino", 91, of Providence, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Trinity Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, in Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Manoian) Bouris.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Helen (Bichikas) Bouris
Charles worked as a self-employed Baker for many years, delivering baked goods to local businesses and apartment communities for the elderly. He also served his country proudly in the United States Navy, during World War II.

Developer plans 106 rental units for former St. Mary's site

PAWTUCKET — A developer is proposing that the former St. Mary's School at 163 George St. and the adjacent brick building that once served as a convent be turned into an apartment complex, along with a new building to be constructed behind the two.
The city's Planning Commission recently held a public hearing on the proposal by I.D. Holdings LLC, whose principal owner is listed as Jeffrey Karll. Karll is a businessman and restauranteur who formerly operated the Cresta Ristorante in the Apex property on Main Street.

Police investigating bank robbery

PAWTUCKET — Police are investigating an attempted bank robbery at the Bank of America at 1455 Newport Ave., which occurred at 11:30 Tuesday morning.
A male reportedly walked into the bank, gave the teller a note and attempted to rob the bank. The teller immediately stepped away from the bank window per bank procedure and the male fled the bank, police saod.

Providence man nabbed in Pawtucket stabbing

PAWTUCKET — A 24-year-old Providence man has been arrested as a suspect in the Monday night stabbing of a Pawtucket man.
On March 25, at around 7:30 p.m., Pawtucket Police responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment on Darrow Street. When police arrived they found a male victim who was suffering from several stab wounds to his torso and neck area. The victim was identified as Shawn A. Whitfield, 42, of the Darrow Street address.
Whitfield was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where his injuries were determined to be not life threatening, Pawtucket Police said.

Tolman High softball players Ashley Clark (left) and Ashley Hessler signed their respective Letters of Intent during a ceremony held last week inside the school’s library. A Second Team All-State selection as a junior, Clark will continue her playing career at Division II Assumption College. A Se-cond Team All-Division selection as a junior, Hessler will take her talents to Connecticut’s University of Bridgeport, a Division II participant.
