Fred H. Brown

CUMBERLAND - Fred H. Brown, 85 of Chambers Street, formerly of Read Street, Attleboro, passed away Wednesday at the Grandview Center, Cumberland. He was the beloved husband of Lucy E. (Marshall) Brown and they had been married for 65 years.
Born in Cedarville, NJ, and he was the son of the late Harry C. and Minnie (Erwin) Brown. He resided in Attleboro for 15 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.
Mr. Brown was the owner of F.H. Brown Machine Company for over 25 years, retiring in 1996.

CUMBERLAND - Lawrence Donald Reedy, 82, of Vista Drive, passed away Tuesday at the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Mary C. (Collins) Reedy, and they had been married for 61 years.
Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late John and Estelle (Osiecki) Reedy. He resided in Cumberland for most of his life.
He was the owner of Sewbiz Industries.

CENTRAL FALLS - Joaquim D. Guerra, 90, formerly of Tremont Street, passed away Wednesday at the Pawtucket Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Pawtucket. He was the husband of Gracinda (de Carvalho) Dias Guerra.
Born in Lameiro, Carvide, Portugal, he was the son of the late Joao and Dolores Dias Guerra. He moved to this country in 1974, settling in Central Falls.
He was a machine operator for Hasbro Inc. of Pawtucket for many years until his retirement.

Kilmartin announces mortgage funding

PROVIDENCE — As part of the National Mortgage Settlement funding for local efforts to help homeowners facing foreclosure, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin has announced two grants totaling $215,000 to support mortgage foreclosure education and outreach to area community agencies. Kilmartin announced a $155,000 grant to Progreso Latino to expand the agency’s Better Living Project and a $60,000 grant to HousingWorks RI to research and report on foreclosures and foreclosure prevention programs over the next three years.

Pawtucket police officer faces domestic assault charge

PAWTUCKET — A 15-year veteran of the Pawtucket Police Department has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman he was involved in a relationship with.
According to a statement from Pawtucket Police, during the past several weeks members of the department were made aware of domestic violence crimes involving one of its patrol officers, 40-year-old Steven Ricco.

FRANK DIPAOLO LAID TO REST

The casket of Frank DiPaolo Jr. is carried out of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Providence Tuesday morning. At right, family and friends of DiPaolo are can be seen leaving the church. DiPaolo, who died Thursday at 106, served as a doorkeeper for the Rhode Island House of Representatives for more than 30 years before retiring in 2010. He was a political mentor to former R.I. Congressman Patrick Kennedy, having met him while Kennedy was a young student at Providence College.

Pawtucket DPW defends snow removal efforts

PAWTUCKET — With ears still ringing from angry constituents’ phone calls, the City Council convened a meeting of its Snow Removal Committee on Tuesday night at City Hall.
Councilors Jean Philippe Barros, David Moran, Albert Vitali, Terry Mercer and Larry Tetreault attended. Most of the other key officials were there: Director of Administration/Public Safety Director Tony Pires, Public Works Director Lance Hill, Emergency Management Director Normand Menard, Highway Supervisor Norm Lamoureux, Police Chief Paul King and Fire Chief William Sisson.
