PAWTUCKET â The American Cancer Societyâs Relay For Life of Pawtucket will hold its 10th anniversary kick-off rally at Plouffeâs Cup & Saucer, 267 Main St., on Monday, Jan. 28 to launch their fundraising efforts for the year. The celebration begins at 6 p.m.; the public is invited.
John & Yvette Carozza
CENTRAL FALLS. Yvette Therese (LeBeau) Carozza entered into eternal life on Saturday January 12, 2013 after an illness. She was the devoted wife of John Richard Carozza, who passed into eternal life on Monday, January 14, 2013.
John and Yvette met in 1949 and were married in October of that year and were devoted to one another ever since. Yvette was a daughter of the late Leo and Antoinette (Pothier) LeBeau. And John was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Gosa) Carozza.
Francis L. Gemme
PAWTUCKET - Francis L. Gemme, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 12, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Joyce L. (Raymond) Gemme for fifty-six years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Imelda M. (Lefort) Gemme. Frank served in the Rhode Island National Guard Military Police for eight years. He was an engineering technician at Texas Instruments for forty-two years before retiring in 1991. Frank was a volunteer for the Darlington Plains Youth Association where he founded the Girls Basketball Program.
Maria Ilda Pacheco
CENTRAL FALLS - Maria Ilda Pacheco, 87, of Central Falls and formerly of Pawtucket, entered into eternal life on Monday after an illness. She was the wife of the late Edmundo Santos Pacheco.
She was born in Angola, Africa a daughter of the late Antonio Gomes Costa and Gracinda Lopes Costa. She came to the United States in 1977 and settled in Pawtucket.
She was a member of the Portuguese Continental Union. She had been employed as a packer at Inter-Pack, Pawtucket for 14 years.
GEORGETOWN, KY - Hargreaves (Hardy), Frances, 93, of Georgetown, KY, formally of Pawtucket, RI, passed away after a short illness on January 11, 2013. She was the wife of the late Clarence Hargreaves. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Alice (Lumb) Hardy.
Sebastiao A. Rocha
PAWTUCKET - Sebastiao A. Rocha, 78, entered into eternal rest on Thursday after an illness. He was the husband of the late Maria Filomena (Toste) Rocha.
He was born in Terceira Is. the Azores, a son of the late Sebastiao and Ilda de Amparo Rocha. He had lived in Pawtucket for the last 38 years. Mr. Rocha had been a machine operator at American Insulated Wire Co for several years. He was a member of the Amigos de Terceira, and a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Pawtucket.
WOONSOCKET - Florence (Husson) David, 84 of Star Avenue, passed away Friday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. David.
Born in Aita-El-Foukhar, Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Metri and Nayfe (Skaff) Husson. She moved to this country in 1948, settling in Woonsocket.
Mrs. David was a homemaker devoting her life to her family and friends. Her unconditional love, friendship and kindness will be truly missed by all.
LINCOLN: Margaret Partington, 84, passed on January 12th. She was the wife of Norman W. Partington. They have been married for 61 years. She was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Goudie) Wyllie.
Bertrand J. Theriault
PAWTUCKET - Bertrand J. Theriault, 91, a retired educator, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Jean-Baptiste and Eugenie (Charette) Theriault.
Leo J. Desjardins
CUMBERLAND - Leo J. Desjardins, 86, of Cumberland died January 9, 2013 at Grandview Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Eileen (Conroy) Desjardins. Mr. Desjardins was born in Central Falls, a son of the late Alfred and Marie (Berube) Desjardins. He was employed by Providence Metalizing Co. for 22 years until his retirement in 1991. Leo was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Margaret C. Coughlin
CUMBERLAND - Coughlin, Margaret C. (Peg) passed away peacefully on Saturday January 12th, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was a life-long resident of Cumberland RI. Born November 10th, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Leo and Clara (Jobe) Cavanaugh.

CUMBERLAND â Citing grave concerns over students' avoidance of the Mendon Road Bridge, the State Traffic Commission has agreed to allow a pedestrian study of the small stretch of roadway in front of Cumberland High School at the request of state Rep. Mia Ackerman.
âThe pedestrian bridge in front of the high school â although entirely safe to walk across â is not being used by a lot of the high school students because it doesn't look safe to them,â said Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln).
PAWTUCKET â The Pawtucket Red Sox will hold their annual wintertime gathering for fans â better known as the Hot Stove League Party â on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McCoy Stadium.
New PawSox manager Gary DiSarcina will give fans a preview of what the 2013 club figures to look like as Pawtucket sets out to defend its Governorsâ Cup championship. Several PawSox players and top Red Sox prospects like OF Jackie Bradley Jr., OF Justin Henry, catcher Dan Butler, and pitcher Allen Webster are expected to attend the party and will be available for photos and autographs.
A work crew from E.W. Audet and Sons Inc. was busy installing new lights at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket this week. A total of 278 light bulbs are being installed that will be brighter and more energy efficient than the ones theyâre replacing.
PAWTUCKET â A 19-year-old city man, John Demonte Alarcon, was arrested on numerous drug charges on Thursday following an investigation by members of the Pawtucket Police Special Squad.
According to Pawtucket Police, this investigation began on information provided by neighborhood residents and anonymous sources. Based on their findings, a court-approved search warrant for an apartment on Hatfield Street was executed on Thursday.
PAWTUCKET â On Thursday night, every table and booth was occupied at Plouffe's Cup 'n Saucer, and the Main Street diner buzzed with lively conversation. However, finding ways to maintain the momentum at this and other downtown businesses was the reason why so many had gathered, and the topic of a meeting called by Mayor Donald Grebien.
Paul R. Kubiak
CUMBERLAND - Paul R. Kubiak, 65, of Angell Road passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Susan E. Angell-Kubiak.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Isle (Rosentreter) Kubiak and the late Leon Kubiak, Sr., he had lived in Cumberland for the past 22 years.
A 1966 graduate of Tolman High School, Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1967-69 and as a reservist until 1973. He was a produce manager for Almacs Supermarkets for 30 years and retired last year from Stop & Shop.
