PAWTUCKET - Veronica Conlon, 88 a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, died December 19 after a long battle with dementia. She was the daughter of the late Anna (Griffin) Conlon and Peter Conlon. She was preceded by her brothers Thomas Conlon, Edward Conlon and Joseph Conlon. Veronica was born January 13, 1925 and spent much of her childhood between Pawtucket and Riverside RI. She worked for the state of Rhode Island for 35 years before retiring. She was an avid golfer, loved to travel and loved to learn even more.
LINCOLN - A 23-year-old woman was struck by a hit and run driver Saturday night and police are asking the public for help in finding the driver who hit her.
According to police reports, the unidentified woman and a male companion were crossing the road in a designated crosswalk in the area of Front Street near Franklin Street at 9:50 p.m. when the woman was struck by a car that was traveling eastbound on Front Street.
The woman suffered significant injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was listed in stable condition Sunday.
PAWTUCKETâA puppy, locked inside a filthy pet carrier, was found inside a dumpster near the intersection of Harrison Street and West Avenue on Thursday morning.
Animal Control Director John Holmes said the puppy was found at around 7:35 a.m. by some passersby who heard the animal crying and called police. The 9-to 10-week-old male had been left inside a carrier that was loaded with feces and thrown into the dumpster, he added.
ATTLEBORO - Miss Amaral died Wednesday peacefully at home. She was 91 years old, born in Attleboro, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Diamantino A. Amaral and Amelia (Araujo) Amaral and had lived in Pawtucket for 70 years. She was a member of St Anthony's Church Pawtucket, RI.
Sonia A. Rodriguez
CENTRAL FALLS - Sonia A. Rodriguez, entered into eternal life at home on Wednesday, surrounded by her family. Sonia was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Rafael Rodriguez and Petra Paradiso, she has lived in the Blackstone Valley since 1990. Sonia had been employed at CCL of Cumberland for 6 years and previously at Texas Instruments.
She leaves a son Dennis Alduen of Central Falls and many close friends. She was the sister of the late Aurea Buzo Rodriguez.
CENTRAL FALLS â Educating âthe whole childâ is an approach that the Segue Institute for Learning was founded upon five years ago. On Thursday, the grassroots charter middle school on Cowden Street was recognized for its practices with the Rhode Island ASCDâs Whole Child Award.

PAWTUCKET â At a time when a host of Bostonâs top prospects are stationed in Double-A and Triple-A, the organization arrived at the decision to provide the PawSox coaching staff with an additional voice.
To be clear, Kevin Boles is Pawtucketâs new manager while fellow Triple-A newcomer Bruce Crabbe is classified as coach, not bench coach. The pair will be joined in the trenches by pitching coach Rich Sauveur and hitting coach Dave Joppie, two holdovers from Gary DiSarcinaâs staff who will be returning to McCoy Stadium in 2014.

PAWTUCKET â Despite competing without several of its better wrestlers, Tolman High showed it could be a contender in Division II this season with an impressive 45-33 victory over a solid Hope team on Thursday evening.
Tolman and Hope both picked up easy wins over shorthanded Central Falls, which fielded only four wrestlers during a 75-6 loss to Tolman and three in an 84-0 burial by Hope.
Louis Lanni Jr.
PAWTUCKET - Louis "Brother" Lanni Jr., 75, of Appleton Ave., died Dec. 17, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice. He was the husband of Maryann (Sienko) Lanni.
Born Aug. 13, 1938, in Providence, he was a son the late Louis Lanni Sr. and Anna Sousa Lanni.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, he leaves his son David Louis Lanni. He was also the brother of the late Jeanette Dutra.
His services were private.
Steven C. Blakey
PAWTUCKET - Steven C. Blakey, 59, passed away peacefully on Dec. 18, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Adelina M. Faria
PAWTUCKET - Adelina M. (Medeiros) Faria, 59, passed away Monday at the Miriam Hospital, Providence.
Born in St. Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Rosa (Melo) Medeiros. She moved to this country in 1971, settling in Pawtucket.
Mrs. Faria was employed as a Jeweler for the Monet Inc. of Pawtucket for over 20 years, but most recently was employed by Accutech Inc. of Foxboro for the past four years.
Maurice L. Lamontagne
CENTRAL FALLS - Maurice L. Lamontagne "SAM" 85, passed away Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Dolores G. (Lussier) Lamontagne.
Born in Central Falls he was a son of the late Elgea and Fortunate (Houle) Lamontagne. He was a life long resident of Central Falls.
Before retiring he was a self employed Electrical Contractor for many years.
Sam was a WWII Army Tech 4. He was a Past Director of the Dexter Credit Union and a member of of the Electrical League of Rhode Island.
Cecille Plante Atkins
PAWTUCKET - Cecille E. (Arnold) Plante Atkins, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Leo Plante and Henry L. Atkins. Born in Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Valeda (Carrier) Arnold, she resided in Pawtucket most of her life. Cecille was a volunteer at area food banks and enjoyed baking and sewing.
WOONSOCKET â The numbers game was truly unkind to the Lincoln boysâ swim team in its one-win campaign from a winter ago, and that was clearly evident in the final weeks of the season, when the Lions were forced to go into meets with just six swimmers at their disposal.
But this season, the numbers are high for the Lions, and so are their expectations at returning to their winning ways.
PAWTUCKET â Saying they didnât think it was the best use of the building, the Pawtucket Redevelopment Agency voted on Tuesday against entering into a lease and/or sale agreement with the Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy for the Visitors Center at 175 Main St.

Lillian M. Skavron
PAWTUCKET - Lillian M. (Stafford) Skavron, 85, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was the wife of George J. Skavron, Sr. for 62 years. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Marie (Spano) Stafford. Lil loved and owned thoroughbred race horses. She also loved dogs, baking, traveling and had a passion for cooking.
James W. Donahue
PAWTUCKET - James W. Donahue, 83, of Pawtucket, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was the husband of Louise (Marquis) Donahue. They were happily married for 62 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Tomlinson) Donahue.
Besides his wife he is survived by five children, Michael Donahue and his wife Marilyn, Cathleen Donahue-Parrott and her husband William, Patricia Houlker and her husband John, and Timothy and James Donahue; ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mary Jenkins.
