DePina defense fundraiser cancelled

CENTRAL FALLS – It outraged them that someone would be putting on a fundraiser to support Jorge DePina’s legal defense of charges he caused the injuries leading to his daughter Aleida DePina’s death on July 3 at Miriam Hospital.

And so, a group of moms from the area banded together and called attention to the planned event at the Tropical Restaurant at 855 Broad St. on Black Friday, winning its cancellation by Tropical owner Eugenio Gibau.

Tolman stages amazing comeback, erases 18-0 halftime deficit to defeat Shea

PAWTUCKET — Things were looking pretty bleak for Tolman High’s football squad at halftime of Friday morning’s holiday clash with Shea inside McCoy Stadium. The Tigers trailed 18-0 on the scoreboard. They were missing five starters due to injuries or academic issues, including quarterback/kicker Corey Hughes, one of the Tigers’ co-captains.

CUMBERLAND - Camalle F. "Cammie" (Howell) Almeida, 37, of Stella Dr. passed away Thursday in the Philip Hulitar Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of Marco Almeida.
Born in Bartleville, OK she was the daughter of Bradley G. and Mildred (Brunn) Howell of Grand Prairie, TX. She had resided in Cumberland since 2008.
She was employed by the Merrill Lynch Corp., Lincoln office for the past nine years. She was also a U. S. Air Force veteran.
