Thereâs no doubt that the college football gods were smiling down on Jean-Daniel Roussel this past Saturday when the Pawtucket native and St. Raphael Academy alumnus tied a Sacred Heart record with three interceptions in one game.
The feat, coming in the Pioneersâ 16-0 non-league victory over Bucknell, helped Roussel garner plenty of recognition. He was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, with College Football Performance Awards bestowing their National Defensive Back Performer of the Week honor upon him.
PAWTUCKET â Whether you like your Halloween fun to be scary or âilluminating,â there are activities in Slater Park this weekend that fits both bills.
Beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m., Slater Park will host âFright Night in the Park.â Halloween events will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings only, through Oct. 26 (with the exception of inclement weather).
EAST PROVIDENCE â In recognition of the cityâs improving financial performance, Standard & Poorâs Ratings Services Tuesday raised East Providenceâs general obligation bond rating five notches to âAâ from âBB+â.
âThe higher rating is based on our recently released local general obligation criteria, as well as the cityâs improving financial performance and liquidity position and lower long-term pension liabilities,â said Standard & Poorâs credit analyst Victor Medeiros.
PAWTUCKET â Thanks to some tireless lobbying on the part of city officials and local legislators, Pawtucket won approval to have a second neighborhood designated as a state-designated âEnterprise Zoneâ offering tax incentives to new or expanding businesses.

PAWUCKET- Rufus C. Aldridge, 82, died peacefully Monday, September 30, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Laurel A. (Kenney) Aldridge for 36 years.

PAWTUCKET - Stanley J. Remiesiewicz, 91, died Monday, September 30, 2013 at Orchard View Manor, East Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie-Therese (Reinartz) Remiesiewicz and the late Lydia (Beben) Remiesiewicz.
SNOWMASS, COLORADO - Thomas Duffin, 44, formerly of Pawtucket passed away at his residence in Colorado on Saturday September 28, 2013.
Born in Pawtucket he was a beloved son of Janice G. (Pellegrini) Duffin of Pawtucket and the late John P. Duffin Jr. He lived in Colorado for the past 25 years where he was employed as a Waiter.
Besides his mother he leaves two devoted brothers, John P. Duffin III and his wife Marie and Craig Duffin and his wife Belinda all of Pawtucket. He also leaves two loving nieces and one nephew.
