Man faces 12 counts of child molestation

PAWTUCKET — A city man has been arrested on 12 counts of second-degree child molestation based on a complaint from a 7-year-old and two other individuals, now adults, who came forward to say he had abused them in the same manner, police said.
The suspect, Samuel Cooper, 41, of Boyce Avenue, was arrested on Wednesday after turning himself in to police. A warrant had been issued for his arrest following an investigation.

Cup N’ Saucer owner believes in downtown business success

PAWTUCKET — Despite the recent closing of one downtown restaurant and some less-than-rosy assessments by other Main Street business owners, the proprietor of Plouffe's Cup N' Saucer says he has been open for three years now at his location and is optimistic about the future.

STERLING, MA- Pauline I. LaMountain, 75, formerly of Pawtucket, died unexpectedly on November 15th at Clinton Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Robert H. LaMountain for 56 years.
She was born in Central Falls, the daughter of the late Herve and Dora (Boie) Heroux and lived most of her life in Pawtucket before moving to Sterling, MA four years ago.

REHOBOTH- Genevieve (Lewandowski) Alexion, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Alexion for 62 years.
Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late John and Antonina Lewandowski.
Mrs. Alexion and her late husband, Harry were the proprietors of the former Alexion's Restaurant, Newport Ave., Pawtucket for 30 years until their retirement. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed attending craft shows and relaxing by the ocean.

PAWTUCKET- Marilyn S. (Salisbury) Cartwright, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Edward Cartwright.
Born in Bath, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Elden, Sr. and Delia (Whitney) Salisbury.
Marilyn worked as a CNA at the Oak Hill Nursing Home, Pawtucket and Epoch Senior Living, Providence for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, but most of all she was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted to her family.

PAWTUCKET- David E. Charbonneau of Camac Street, Pawtucket passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, November 15, 2012. He was the husband of Linda C. (Refino) Charbonneau.
Mr. Charbonneau was born in Pawtucket the son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Kenney) Charbonneau.
He was a United States Navy Veteran, so proud to have had the opportunity to serve his country.

Two arrested for charter school break-in

PAWTUCKET — Despite their attempts to hide, two city men were arrested after breaking into the International Charter School on Monday night.
Pawtucket Police said they received a call that an alarm was sounding at the school, located at 334 Pleasant St., at around 9 p.m. When officers arrived, they observed a broken window on the side of the building and could also see a man running inside.

Standing in the hallway outside Joe Mullaney Gym late last week, Vincent Council touched upon the close-knit nature of this year’s PC basketball team.
It’s become a yearly occurrence for the program’s senior leader to begin his “State of the Friars” address by remarking that there’s no friction in place and how everyone gets along just swimmingly. Donnie McGrath uttered something similar prior to the start of his final season in 2005. Ditto Sharaud Curry in the fall of 2009.

Lincoln High celebrates trio of Division I athletes

LINCOLN – Three Lincoln High School student-athletes sat at a table inside the school’s library Wednesday afternoon, tending to some pretty important business.
For months all of them took comfort in knowing that they selected the right college, the place of higher learning where they felt most comfortable upon completing their high school requirements. With the clock reading 4:17 p.m., the Lincoln seniors picked up a pen and with family, coaches and school administrators present, carefully signed the document before them.

Clippers’ Kent to swim for Vermont

CUMBERLAND — For Courtney Kent and the University of Vermont, it was love at first sight.
Last February Cumberland High senior swim phenom Courtney Kent and coach Heidi Josephson trekked to Boston to watch the America East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The reason for the trip: She wanted to see the University of Vermont compete, and meet with women's head coach Gerry Cournoyer, not to mention some of his swimmers.

Scouts collect over 200,000 pounds of food

EAST PROVIDENCE — For 25 years the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America has hosted its annual Scouting for Food Drive, which is now the largest food drive throughout New England. Since the drive’s inception in 1988, the Council has collected over 8 million pounds of food for Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Monument honors Portuguese-American veterans

PAWTUCKET — Congressman David N. Cicilline was among a large gathering that turned out last Sunday for the Portuguese Social Club's Veterans Day inauguration and dedication of a monument honoring Portuguese-American Veterans.
On Sunday, the club officially dedicated the “Monument to the Portuguese American Veterans and Members of Our Community,” a 5,400-pound granite structure located on an illuminated island next to the American, Portuguese and Rhode Island flag posts in the club’s parking lot at 131 School St.

Up until 4 years ago Silas worked as a Machine Operator for American Insulated Wire Company in Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET - Maria N. Linhares (Vieira) 71, of Pawtucket, died November 14, 2012 at home. She was the wife of Francisco Linhares. They were married for forty six years. She was born in Terceira, Azores. Daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Goncalves) Vieira. She came to this country thirty two years ago settling in Pawtucket. She was employed by Colonial Mills as a seamstress until her retirement.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.

Born in Clinton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Matisewski. She resided in Cumberland for most of her life.
