CENTRAL FALLS - Lucille Ledoux, 91, of 466 Hunt St, passed on September 6th. She was the wife of the late Rudolph Ledoux.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ida (Deschesne) Philibert. She had been employed by United Net and had also worked in the Jewelry Industry.
She is survived by a sister, Therese Batalon and her husband Deacon Raymond Batalon of Greenville, and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Richard Ledoux and sister of the late Irma Emond, Estelle Chicoine and Jeannette Boucher.

PAWTUCKET - Doris F. Larocque, 87 passed away Friday, August 31st at the Oakhill Nursing Home in Pawtucket. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Larocque for 63 years.
Born in Fitchburg, MA, she was the daughter of the late Alvarez and Felixina (Lemoine) Marceau.
Doris is survived by her loving and devoted caretaker and daughter, Lynn A. Larocque; a daughter in law Sharlene Larocque; a sister, Elaine Lethbridge; several nieces and nephews and her much loved K-9 companions, Shi-Ling, Angelic and Amelia.

C.F. teen mom earns $1,000 scholarship

CENTRAL FALLS – Cristina Robalo, a 19-year-old student at Central Falls High School, is the recipient of $1,000 scholarship award from Rhode Island Community Action Scholar (RICAS) Scholarships.
A senior at the high school, Robalo is a member of the Youth Success Program at Blackstone Valley Community Action Agency in Central Falls, a program that helps pregnant and parenting teens succeed.

Arts Festival kicks off tonight

PAWTUCKET — They'll be rockin' by the river tonight, as the 14th annual Pawtucket Arts Festival gets underway with its Gala and “Taste of Pawtucket” events.
The opening night Gala and “Taste of Pawtucket” will start at 6 p.m. along a portion of Roosevelt Avenue near the intersection with Main Street and on the grounds of Slater Mill (rain or shine). It promises to be an evening of delicious restaurant samplings served with an ample portion of zydeco music, dance and refreshment, all by the banks of the mighty Blackstone River and historic Slater Mill Museum site.

PAWTUCKET – It’s closing time for your Pawtucket Red Sox – as in closing out the opposition and advancing to the Governor’s Cup finals.
First things first as the PawSox still need to notch one more win against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Such a scenario could come to fruition as early as Friday night at Rochester’s Frontier Field after Pawtucket grabbed Game Two of its opening-round series Thursday night by a 3-2 count at McCoy Stadium before 2,214 supportive and at times enthusiastic fans.

High school football season kicks off tonight

Over time, principles rooted in Darwinism help in separating the wheat from the chaff by performing the simple act of drawing a line right down the middle. Such a divide won’t begin on Friday night as teams partake in what could essentially be chalked up to the final installment after nearly four weeks of preseason camp.

“We were just looking for proper spacing, and we wanted to see how we’d play together for the first time around,” she stated. “We did well, but there are some things we need to work on.”

Evelyn "Daisy" I. DosSantos, 65, of Johnston died Tuesday at the Miriam Hospital in Providence. She was the wife of Angelo dosSantos and they were married for 26 years.
Born in Pawtucket she was the daughter of the late Edward and Evelyn (Frates) McDermott. Evelyn resided in Pawtucket most of her life and moved to Johnston 3 years ago.

RUMFORD- Margaret C. (Cloutier) Podgurski, 92, formerly of Rumford Towers and Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2012.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Podgurski and the loving mother of the late Nancy M. Cox.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary V. (Harbec) Cloutier, she resided in Pawtucket most of her life before moving to Rumford in 1986.
Mrs. Podgurski was a saleslady at the Peerless Company, Pawtucket for sixteen years until retiring in 1984.

SOUTH ATTLEBORO - Dorothy H. Jannerelli, 90, of Cumberland Avenue died Monday, September 4, 2012 in Kindred Hospital, Stoughton after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Frank A. Jannerelli who passed away in 1979.

Born January 25, 1922 in North Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late George Kettell and Grace (Howard) Arns.

CUMBERLAND - Dorothy G. Dobson, 76, passed September 4th. She was the wife of the late Earl Dobson Jr.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Lena (Lewis) Bir.
She had been employed as a CNA for many years and was a volunteer and peer counselor for the M.S. Society of RI.
She is survived by two sons, Earl "David" Dobson and his wife Lori of North Scituate and Brian W. Dobson and his wife Martina of Cumberland, a grandson Dale B. Dobson of North Scituate. She was the sister of the late Celia Shurtleff.

PawSox grab series opener from SWB Yankees, 7-4

PAWTUCKET – One down, five to go.
Seeking to claim the franchise’s first Governor’s Cup championship in 28 years, the Pawtucket Red Sox grabbed Game One of the best-of-five opening-round series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 7-4. The PawSox fell behind 4-0 after 2½ innings before compiling seven unanswered runs to end the contest, which was witnessed by 1,518.

Lucchino visits McCoy; Atchison eyes return

PAWTUCKET – Larry Lucchino admitted Wednesday that he tries to clear his schedule and make a once-per-season pilgrimage to McCoy Stadium. In that regard, the Red Sox’s president and CEO should thank the PawSox for advancing to the Governor’s Cup playoffs.
Providing a textbook case of better late than never, Lucchino took in Wednesday’s playoff opener from Pawtucket president Mike Tamburro’s box.
Arriving roughly 3 1/2 hours prior to the scheduled 7:05 first pitch, Lucchino spent quite a bit of time in the home team’s clubhouse and in the company of PawSox skipper Arnie Beyeler.

PAWTUCKET — Stanley Banach III, an unemployed baker who was injured in a car crash, used to be able to walk from his home to the netWORKri office in Pawtucket, where he would bring his 20-month-old son along to look for jobs. Now, the young father complains that he will have to tote his son with him on a long bus ride to Providence or Woonsocket in order to do the same type of job search at another netWORKri facility.

PawSox host SWB Yanks in tonight's playoff opener

PAWTUCKET — Only a few players remained in the Pawtucket Red Sox clubhouse following a short practice at McCoy Stadium at mid-morning Tuesday, and one happened to be catcher Mike Rivera, who sat alone at his locker playing a video game.
While most teammates already had exited to enjoy an afternoon off prior to the wild card-winning PawSox’ best-of-five playoff series against the International League’s North Division champion Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, Rivera admitted he’s excited to pursue the Governors’ Cup title.

PAWTUCKET - Frieda H. Dengal, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2012.
Born in Rehoboth, she was a daughter of the late John and Katherine (Morth) Dengal. She was a service advisor in the Business Service Department at Verizon for many years until retiring. Frieda was a devoted volunteer giving freely of herself to many local organizations including; AT&T Pioneers, American Red Cross and local womens shelters in Pawtucket and Providence, where she was known amongst children as The Ice Cream Lady.

PAWTUCKET - Antonio J. Perrone formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Wanda Carmen (Cosentini) Perrone. Mr. Perrone was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Joseph and Rosina Perrone.
He had a long and illustrious Military Career. Mr. Perrone served in the United States Navy, The United States Army and the United States Air Force during WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

CENTRAL FALLS - Olivia Rodrigues, 85, of Central Falls, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late Mauricio Rodrigues. Born in Madeira, Portugal she was a daughter of the late Joaquim and Maria Angela Rodrigues.
Mrs. Rodrigues was employed as a machine operator at Filipe Braiding Co. She retired in 1991. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
