C.F. booters defeat Cumberland, remain unbeaten

CUMBERLAND – Central Falls High head coach Carl Africo doesn't ask former mentor Bobby Marchand to help him out with scouting, but – if he's going to offer – the former isn't about to argue.
Prior to the Warriors' Division I tilt against Cumberland on Wednesday night, Marchand told Africo he had seen the Clippers play at Barrington earlier in the week, and told him that junior striker Kyle Courtney had the speed and ball skills to be a thorn in CF's defensive side.

Saints grab first III-A victory at Villa Novans' expense

WOONSOCKET — In a game featuring two of the Division III-A’s youngest teams, it was a group of veteran players that helped St. Raphael pick up its first league victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior striker Kyanna Ivey-Jones netted a pair of goals, her fifth and sixth of the season, and senior co-captain Lauren Gaj added a goal and an assist to help the Saints post a 3-1 victory over Woonsocket at Barry Field.

Hodde celebrates 20 years teaching, playing music

SEEKONK — Guitar teacher Greg Hodde was amused when the mother of one of his teenage male students told him she didn't mind paying for lessons because it was “cheaper than counseling.” Yet, the self-taught musician and teacher can relate to that sentiment, as he is a true believer in the power of music and its role in one's journey toward self-discovery.

Cost-cutting moves cause grumbling

PAWTUCKET — With the next year's budget process underway as well as contract negotiations, two recent moves in the Pawtucket Police Department that the chief and city officials say are necessary have caused grumbling among the rank and file.
Last week, a low-key promotion ceremony was held at City Hall for two Pawtucket Police officers. Detective Capt. Paul Catarina was elevated to major of administration, a position that had been vacant, and Lt. Tina Goncalves was promoted to captain.

PAWTUCKET - Stanley Loniak, 82, of Fogarty Manor, Roosevelt Avenue passed away Sunday September 16, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI.
Born in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late Steven and Pauline (Chicoracki) Loniak. He lived in Pawtucket for the past 13 years and was formerly of Warwick, RI and New Jersey.
Before retiring he was employed as a Manager in a Jewelry Manufacturing Co. He was an Art Exhibitor for 59 years and was a past member of the Pawtucket Art Collaborative Board Of Directors and a member of the Leon Mathieu Senior Center of Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET - Jeone M. (Meadow) LaRose, 103, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Lionel LaRose.
Born in Millbury, MA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Delima Meadow. Mrs. LaRose was a seamstress at the Lincoln Dress Company for many years. She was a member of the Notre Dame and St. Matthew Seniors Club, and enjoyed reading, crocheting and Bingo.

PAWTUCKET - Mary B. Dolan, 83,died peacefully on Monday surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pawtucket she was the daughter of the late Mansour and Wadiyah Berouty.
She is survived by her loving husband Irving of 63 years. She was the loving mother of Nancy Buss and husband Joseph
of Lincoln, and William Dolan and wife Grace of Oakland Maine. She was a devoted grandmother to Jenny and Katie Buss,
and Emily and Jamie Dolan. She is also survived by her sister Sally Wyllie of Lincoln. She was predeceased by her brother
Samuel Berouty of Long Beach California.
