Do your children need practice reading? Pawtucket Public Library is offering a chance for children to read to Tinker Bell the reading therapy dog, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the Children's Caidin Room. The program takes place on Tuesdays in September and October from 5:30 - 6:30p.m. Sign up for a 15-minute block of reading time, come hang out to see if Tinker Bell has any free time for you, or visit to see which fancy outfit she has on that day. This program is for children of all ages. Call 401-725-3714 ext. 209.

Chafee to speak at DNC Tuesday

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican turned Independent, will get a speaking spot at next week’s Democratic National Convention.
“I am honored to be attending the 2012 Democratic National Convention,” Chafee said in a written statement. “President Obama has been a friend to Rhode Island, his policies have brought valuable benefits to the people of our state during historically difficult times, and I am proud to explain to the convention audience why I – a former Republican – and lots of people like me are supporting the President’s re-election.”

Pawtucket goes back to school Sept. 4

PAWTUCKET — The city’s public school students can enjoy a few more days of the traditional summer vacation as the new school year starts after the Labor Day weekend, on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
