PAWTUCKET — A 28-year-old Pullen Avenue man with a history of domestic assault charges is accused of hitting his former girlfriend and taking part in her abduction in an incident near her Amey Street home early Sunday morning, Pawtucket Police said.

Cumberland's school year starts tomorrow

CUMBERLAND — The start of a new school year begins tomorrow with students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 9 returning to classes, followed by students in Grades 10-12 on Thursday.
Throughout the summer, the School Committee, School Superintendent Philip D. Thornton and the school administration and staff have been planning several new programs and initiatives for the upcoming year, including full-day kindergarten and a new district-wide grading policy.

PAWTUCKET - Normandin, Barbara May, 83, of Roosevelt Avenue, died Monday August 27th, 2012 at Fogarty Housing in Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late Ernest Normandin Sr.
Born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Woods) Quinn. Mrs. Normandin had worked as a foreman at Hasbro.

PAWTUCKET - David W. Greenwood, 45, of Sayles Avenue, Pawtucket died August 22, 2012.
Mr. Greenwood was born in Pawtucket, the son of William M. Greenwood and Doris (Alarie) Greenwood. He was a self employed telemarketer.
Mr. Greenwood was a longtime political activist in the City of Pawtucket. He was a staunch supporter of a fair and honest government for all the citizens in and around his beloved Pawtucket. David was a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and though he loved all sports the Red Sox were always his favorite team.

Eileen M. MarcAurele, of Hughes Avenue, Pawtucket passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Gerald J. MarcAurele.
Mrs. MarcAurele was born in Cumberland, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Perry) Bannon. She was a loving homemaker and a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Mariana was born in East Providence, the daughter of the late Lawrendo and Matilda (Pina) Alves.
Ms. Gomez is survived by her son Ricardo Gomez of Providence, her nephew James Parker and his wife Pearl of Providence, her nieces Angelita Cartagena of Florida and Benita Sanchez of Massachusetts and several great nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Maria Alves Cartagena, Dulinda Alves Sanchez, Domingo and John Alves and the aunt of the late Laurendo Peters.

CUMBERLAND - Ovila J. "Chick" Pelland, 85, of Little Pond County Road died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (Neil) Pelland. Mr. and Mrs. Pelland were married for 53 years.
Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Homer and Roseanne (Bergeron) Pelland, he had lived in Cumberland for the past 23 years.
Mr. Pelland was an engineering aide for Texas Instruments, Attleboro for 32 years before retiring in 1968.
He was a member of Assembly of God Church, South Attleboro.
