PAWTUCKET — A grand jury has decided not to bring charges against two Pawtucket police officers who shot to death a Massachusetts man who pulled a gun during a traffic stop in May.
The Rhode Island attorney general's office said on Thursday that the Providence County Grand Jury found the shooting was legally justified.
The officers said 37-year-old Jamie Coyle got out of the car with a gun, and they opened fire to protect themselves. Police pulled him over because he appeared to match the description of a suspect wanted in Massachusetts for an assault with a firearm earlier that day.
