Sure, it was a prime opportunity for two good and longtime friends to catch up, yet the time spent between these two former University of North Carolina teammates boiled down to one particular subject matter.

Lincoln holds off EWLL for District IV victory

WOONSOCKET -- While a few East Woonsocket Little League officials re-manicured Hartnett Field after the late Monday afternoon downpour, Lincoln All-Stars’ head coach Frank Kelly quietly told a parent, “I’ll be happy just to get out of here with a win.”
His players more than obliged. Behind a stellar starting pitching performance by righty Joe Voccola, not to mention a pair of pinch-hit home runs, Lincoln posted a 6-4 triumph over East Woonsocket’s best in a R.I. District IV Tournament Pool A playoff tilt.

Caramela bows out of District 5 Council race

PAWTUCKET — Just five days after the deadline to declare for candidacy in the November election and a day before nomination papers could be obtained, Christopher J. Caramela announced plans to withdraw from the District 5 City Council race.
Caramela, who lives on Stuart Street, had planned to run as an independent candidate in an effort to unseat Democratic incumbent Councilor Jean Philippe Barros.

Next big thing in Pawtucket: Beer research

PAWTUCKET — With interest brewing about Pawtucket becoming a player in the beer industry, one enterprising local businessman is taking that idea to the next level by offering a “beer research facility.”
J. Scot Comey has plans to create the BeerXchange at an undisclosed location in Pawtucket. He said the idea is to offer a comfortable, tavern-like venue to conduct beer sampling from the general public and then collect and analyze the data as a service to brewers, distributors, bar and liquor store owners and others who have a stake in the beer industry.

ATTLEBORO, MA -Annette M. (Coutu) Geoffroy, 83, of Attleboro passed away on Saturday June 30, 2012 at Madonna Manor in North Attleborough. She was the wife of sixty-two years to Adrian E. Geoffroy.

Marie-Claire Y. Johnson

PAWTUCKET - Marie-Claire Y. Johnson, 74, of Pawtucket passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on June 30, 2012. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Central Falls, the daughter of the late George and Aline (Penelle) Lefebvre. She was a Registered Nurse at the Pawtucket Memorial Hospital for over 30 years.
Mrs. Johnson was an active member of St. Raymonds Church in Providence. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Shawl ministry and a member of the Leisure Group there.

Henry N. Belhumeur

CUMBERLAND - Henry N. Belhumeur, of 27 Mount View Drive, Cumberland, passed away peacefully at the Mount St Rita Rest Home on June 30, 2012. He was survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Leona (Palin) Belhumeur.
Mr. Belhumeur was a veteran of World War II during which he attained the rank of sergeant with the 593rd Air Force unit and was stationed for much of the war in England.
He was a lace weaver for most of his working life working both at Central Lace in Central Falls and later Seekonk Lace.

WOONSOCKET - Patricia M. Renn, 77, of Woonsocket, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Landmark Medical Center.
Born and raised in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Viola E. (Klang) Smith. She was a resident of Woonsocket for many years.
Patricia was a graduate of the former West High School in Pawtucket, Class of 1952. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Dramatics from Emerson College in Boston with the Class of 1956.

PAWTUCKET - Lawrence T. Blake Jr., of Columbus Avenue, Pawtucket died July 1, 2012. He was the husband of the late Clara I. (Poirier) Blake.
Mr. Blake was born in Pawtucket the son of the late Lawrence T. Blake Sr., and Helena (Ash) Blake.
Mr. Blake was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army and a longtime member of the American Veterans Post #33.

PAWTUCKET - Leslie E. "Buddy" Good, 78 years old, died Sunday at the VA Medical Center in Providence with his family by his side.
Born in Curwensville, PA a son of the late Spencer and Florence (Milliron) Trainer and the late John F. Good.
He was the owner/operator of L. Good & Sons Plastering. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member of Smithfield Ave. Congregational Church and Carr-Lancaster VFW Post 10213.
