Council OKs re-use of mill, growth center plan

June 23, 2012

PAWTUCKET — A zoning change that will allow for the re-use of the American Insulated Wire complex for residential apartments and commercial enterprises was given first passage by the City Council at Wednesday night's meeting.
The amendment to the city's zoning map will be done by an overlay pertaining only to the 6-acre parcel of land at 413 Central Ave. that is the site of the former American Insulated Wire company. A developer wants to turn the mill buildings on the property into one- and two-bedroom rental units, while the ground floor will be leased to commercial tenants.
