City may privatize trash pickup

PAWTUCKET — Now that the waste transfer station has been leased to a private company, the city is exploring the possibility of privatizing its trash collection and recycling services as well in a plan that could involve two other communities.

EAST PROVIDENCE — Laureen D’Ambra, chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Rhode Island’s 138-year-old St. Mary Academy-Bay View, has announced the appointment of Vittoria Pacifico-DeBenedictis as the school's new incoming president.
Pacifico-DeBenedictis, who will assume her new role on July 1, succeeds the first president of the academy, Elizabeth A. McAuliffe, who has held the position for the past 18 years.

Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Alcide and Rose A. (Lacroise) Laliberte. Theresa was a lifelong resident of Central Falls and had been employed for over 30 years by Blackstone Catering.

ATTLEBORO - Leroy E. Emory, 90, of Newport, North Carolina and formerly of South Attleboro passed away at home on Monday, May 14, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Parsigian) Emory.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, a son of the late Dee Irving and Ella (Tilley) Emory, he resided in South Attleboro most of his life before returning to North Carolina 6 years ago.

PAWTUCKET - Robert R. Hanson, 52, a lifelong resident of Pawtucket, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late William P. and Doris (Paulhus) Hanson.
He is survived by his sister, Diane Grennell, and his two brothers, Bill and Bruce Hanson.
