Pawtucket's Chattelle seeks to defend MMA crown

LINCOLN — When fans last saw Todd Chattelle at the Twin River Event Center, it was last Nov. 18 and the Pawtucket native was being triumphantly carried from the octagon to the locker rooms on the shoulders of a few of his friends.
Chattelle has just recorded the biggest triumph of his 5½-year career with his first-ever submission on an unexpected guillotine chokeout of Brett Oteri of Dedham, Mass. 3:18 into their fight for the inaugural CES Mixed Martial Arts middleweight championship.

Clippers stay hot, belt Mounties

WOONSOCKET — On Tuesday, host Cumberland High pounded out 17 hits, including nine for extra bases, en route to a 14-0 “mercy rule” pasting of Smithfield High.
Skipper Paul Murphy’s crew didn’t supply him and assistant Dale O’Dell with the same kind of offensive barrage 48 hours later at Mount St. Charles, but it did register eight hits to post a second consecutive “mercy rule” triumph over the Mounties, this time an 11-0 verdict on Thursday.

East Providence reaches out to business

EAST PROVIDENCE — In an effort to foster a “business friendly climate,” city officials are reaching out to local business owners to discuss ways they can make their companies more profitable, operate efficiently and grow their businesses strong in a challenging economy.
In what is believed to be the first session of its kind, the city is hosting a business outreach forum on Tuesday, April 24, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at City Hall. No advance registration is required.

Romney stumps in Warwick

WARWICK – On his first full day as the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party for president, Mitt Romney visited Rhode Island Wednesday, blasting President Barack Obama for the stagnating economy and lack of jobs in America.
Romney appeared at a Town Hall type meeting at the Crown Plaza hotel that lasted just over 45 minutes, taking questions on everything from the plight of the local fishing economy to who he will choose as a running mate.
