Hurley quickly gets his feet wet at URI; Vincent Council looking forward to senior year with PC

WARWICK — Whenever a new administration takes the reins of power, the first few days can seem like a blur. In the case of Dan Hurley, the newly minted URI head coach has wasted little time in remaking the program and personnel he’s inheriting into one befitting of his image.
Monday saw Hurley conduct an early morning workout session with the Rhody players brought specifically to campus by previous coach Jim Baron. He described the proceedings as a prime chance to gather more information while simultaneously laying his cards on the table in terms of expectations moving forward.

E.P. students learn phys ed 'the health club way'

EAST PROVIDENCE — Jay Monteiro well remembers his days as an outstanding student-athlete at East Providence High back in the early 1980s. He also admits he recalls the simplicity in which his old gym classes were designed.
In the fall, boys would hustle to the locker room between classes, put on school logo-emblazoned workout clothes and play flag football or soccer, while – during the winter months – they'd pick makeshift teams and play basketball or volleyball, or even partake in sports such as gymnastics or floor hockey.

CF firefighters make prom day special

CENTRAL FALLS — The Central Falls firefighters' union has come to the rescue of some Central Falls High School students who were worried they could not afford to go to their senior prom.
On Tuesday, eight students who are taking part in the high school's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM ) Academy internship program in conjunction with the Central Falls Fire Department received a nice surprise: their prom dresses, tuxedo rentals, flowers, and limousine would be paid for, courtesy of I.A.F.F. Local 1485.

LINCOLN- Dusablon, Eleanor "Pat" 74 died Saturday March 24, 2012 at home. She was the wife of the late Norman Dusablon.
Born in Pawtucket a daughter of the late James and Alice (Qualey) Newman. She was a lifelong resident of Lincoln.
Mrs. Dusablon was a knitter for Health-Tex Company. She served in the United States Navy.

PAWTUCKET- Alma A. Magnan, 92 died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Jeanne Jugan Residence after an illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Magnan.
She was born in Pawtucket the daughter of the late Vitalin and Georgianna (Allard) Chartier.
Mrs. Magnan was an assembler at the Bruce Diamond Company retiring in 1985.

PAWTUCKET- Ella H.(Palagi) Krzak, 93, formerly of Pawtucket died Saturday March 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Stanley Krzak.
Mrs. Krzak was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Pietro and Severina (Finucci) Palagi.
She worked for the family business of Palagi Ice Cream and in the office Dupree Oil for many years.

PAWTUCKET- John D. Ogni, 59, formerly of Warwick Rd, passed March 25th.
He was the son of Josephine Ogni.
He had been employed as a supervisor at the Sanford & White Company of Pawtucket for many years.
He is survived by two sons, John D. Ogni Jr. of Texas and Kyle D. Ogni of Pawtucket, and several grandchildren. He was the former husband of Gladys Ogni Boulanger.

She was born in Faial, Azores a daughter of the late Jose and Eduina (Silva) Mello. Mrs. Dutra worked at American Insulated Wire and Rhode Island Textile Company before retiring.

PAWTUCKET- Genevieve S. JEAN Golembicki formerly of Pawtucket passed away Thursday March 22, 2012 at the Lancashire Convalescent Center in Kilmarnock, VA. She was the beloved wife of Joseph P. Golembicki.
Born in Central Falls she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Henrietta (Jakubowski) Maziarz. She lived in Virginia for the past 16 years.
Before retiring Jean was employed as an Embroiderer for the former Health-Tex Manufacturing Co. for many years.

PAWTUCKET- Dennis M. Mack, 60, of Hanover Street, Pawtucket died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital, Providence.
Mr. Mack was born in Brockton MA, the son of Alfred P. Mack and Muriel (Whealan) Mack of Attleboro MA. He graduated from Brockton High School and Massasoit College.
Mr. Mack was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served his country Courageously in Vietnam. He was a fork lift operator for the Rolf C. Hagan Company.

Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Malvina (Arnold) Menoche.
Tillie is survived by a sister, Yvette Theroux of Florida and a brother, Raymond L. Menoche of Lincoln.

CUMBERLAND- Loretta E. Labbe, 89, formerly of Cumberland, died Wednesday at Trinity Health Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late William Labbe.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late George and Emily (Dupras) Boulay.
Mrs. Labbe had been employed as a line toymaker for Hasbro Manufacturing until her retirement.
She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Wilfred, Ernest and Gerard Boulay.

EXETER, NH- Lucille J. Paquette, 87, of Exeter, NH, died Wednesday at home surrounded by her children. She was the wife of the late James H. Paquette.
Born in St. Gertrude, PQ Canada, she was a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Maria C. (Baril) Dumont.
Mrs. Paquette worked in the textile industry and made fiberglass parachute cord during World War II. Later, she worked for Texas Instruments in quality control.
