PROVIDENCE – In three previous tilts this season, East Providence High had outscored league rival Mount Hope High by a 13-5 count, including a 4-3 triumph in the initial game of this R.I. Division III Tournament best-of-three finals set.
Townies' mentor Kevin Croke had hoped for a similar, hefty offensive output during Game 2 at Schneider Arena; with it, EP would clinch a much-desired state championship.

Committee OKs additional supervision in schools

PAWTUCKET — While schoolyard scuffles are nothing new, some parents of elementary-age students have complained that more supervision is needed outside the buildings prior to the start of the school day and at dismissal time. On Wednesday night, a majority of the School Committee agreed, and approved the quick implementation of a plan that will add 20 minutes of outdoor staff supervision in the morning and 20 minutes after school lets out.

'We're Irish here all year round'

Kathy DeWolfe, of Pawtucket, buys bouquets of flowers for family members for St. Patrick's Day at Uncle Ronnie’s Florist on Mendon Road in Cumberland Friday. Proprietor Ronnie Heffernan, pictured at right, who has been in business for the past 40 years, said sales were brisk all day in honor of the Irish holiday. He also stated that "we're Irish here all year round."
